FM2010 Season Summary 2010-2011

Published on

Hello dear friends! After finishing my second season with Dorchester Town with another happy promotion, from Blue Square Premier to League Two, I was curious to see what happened in the game much higher than our semi-professional league. So I checked the results that were recorder in the top competitions, I hope you are as eager to see them as I was. Let’s see…

Since the real World Cup has just ended first I wanted to find out what happened in the FM2010 version. Well, of course the qualified teams were not exactly the same as in real life and I guess the most surprising run was made by Morocco who went all the way to the quarter finals. They were knocked out by Germany who went on to play the final. The World Cup winners were Portugal, quite disappointing in real life, they dominated the tournament and finished in style with a 3-0 win over Germany. England did a bit better in FM2010, Capello‘s men went all the way to the semi finals where they were knocked out after a narrow defeat against Germany.

In case you were wondering how come Portugal won the World Cup, the answer is quite simple: Cristiano Ronaldo. He was in top form and was awarded the Golden Ball trophy along with the Golden Shoe for most goals scored (no less than seven!). Steven Gerrard had a very good tournament too, hit the net four times and played three assists.

The World Cup Dream Team came out quite different compared to the real-life one: Marouane Chamakh and Luis Suarez upfront, Barnetta on the left wing, Lassana Diarra in the middle… I guess only Iker Casillas was the best in «both worlds» :)

Now let’s move on to the European competitions. Well, the 2011 Champions League was an Italian affair, Fiorentina and Inter battled it our in the final and Fiorentina managed to edge it. I guess we won’t see that happening in real life soon. The best English teams were Arsenal and Manchester City but both of them got knocked out in the quarter finals.

The Europa League trophy went to Atletico Madrid yet again, they beat Chelsea in the final.

The 2011 Premier League was won by Chelsea, I guess that might happen in real life too. The league table seems pretty realistic overall, don’t you think?

The Premier League Team of The Season doesn’t offer too many surprises, maybe only Everton‘s Leighton Baines can be considered an outsider.

Moving on to Italy we see that Juventus recovered well from their current problems and managed to win the Serie A in 2011. The big surprise is A.C. Milan‘s 10th place finish, that would be quite a disaster…

In Spain Barcelona won the title and I guess that’s mainly because they didn’t have to face Ana‘s mighty Real Union :) The big surprise is Getafe‘s second place finish, I guess that never happened in the club’s history! Real Madrid finished 6th and probably sacked their manager yet again, as usual.

One more screen shot before wrapping it up, the World Team Of The Year 2010. Lionel Messi won both individual awards (Player of the Year and Footballer of the Year) and obviously he is also featured in the Dream Team. There are two surprises in the best eleven in my view, centre back Philippe Mexes and midfielder Gareth Barry. David Villa was selected as a substitute but I guess that’s because he’s still at Valencia in the game.

That’s about it folks, I hope you enjoyed this trip into virtual football :) If you are curious to see any other results or facts from the 2010-2011 season in my game please let me know and I will try to add the screen shots that you might request. Now I’m going to prepare for the pre-season with Dorchester Town, thanks for reading and stay tuned for the next post!
