FM 2021 New Features: How Has Interaction Changed In FM21

Published on

Hey guys and welcome to a more detailed look at the FM21 new features starting with Interaction.

With BETA release just weeks away the new feature hype has hit overdrive including video reveals and blogs. The Football Manager 2021 feature blogs are essentially a sales pitch but you want to know what has actually changed for Football Manager 2021, thats where we come in.

How Has Interaction Changed In FM21

Football Manager boldly claim:

“The way you communicate with your players and the media has changed considerably & will have more of an impact across the whole game”.

According to the Interaction feature blog we will have more tools to get our point across but what does this mean for us, the gamer?

Gestures

We now use Gestures instead of the old tone system. So instead of ‘aggressively’ telling your star striker he couldn’t hit a barn door with a Banjo…you can ‘throw your water bottle’ ala Fergie. Gestures are none verbal signals essentially.

The Gestures at our disposal will vary for each situation, so team talks for instance will have more expressive and emotive gestures to unleash your inner Warnock and Holloway helping you motivate the lads.

The Gestures you choose will help form your personality and media handling style. Want to keep the press at arm’s length? Use abrasive gestures and to utilise the media be more animated to show an interest.

One quote worth noting:

“There are also significant improvements to the AI and the way the characters in game react to the interactions”.

This extends beyond players and journalists to the board.

Quick Chats

Quick chats will replace the old chat system which can be used to communicate with players, journalists and opposition managers.

Quick chats are informal and as such happen in a chat popup and can happen for a wide variety of topics.

Quick chats can be remote or in person. A remote example is responding to a Journalist trying to get the inside story on a transfer rumour. In-Person quick chats are used to praise player performance or training.

In-person chats begin with a gesture and players will react to this setting the tone and atmosphere for how each interaction unfolds.

We can now interact with players sent out on loan, asking how happy they’re through quick chats.

Quick chats are accessed through the ‘discuss’ menu on a players profile or automatically prompted by relevant news.

Press Conferences

Sports Interactive hint you will not want to send your Assistant Manager to do weekly press conferences due to a radical redesign.

Don’t worry, this is a gloat on the new feel and relevance of press conferences, not a threat of the implications from sending a capable AM…we hope!

We also have a knew role in game, the Press Officer who will brief you before all press conferences. Your Press Officer will not only lay out who will be attendance and topics covered but which questions to elaborate on or avoid.

Much of what SI claim to be new in Press Conferences is more of a front end redesign but you can now see each Journalists body language to better understand how the press conference is going. Your Captain or Team Leader will join the occasional PC also.

Your Press Officer will summarize all conferences with changes to relationships and any notable highlights. I for one will be sending my Assistant!

Face to Face Conversations

Face to face conversations are reserved for important communications such as player wage negotiations. More than two people can attend these meetings; your player may bring his agent when asking for more game time, while you may have your Assistant or Director of Football present.

You can also observe how each person is responding to the meeting through body language. As with press conferences you will receive a summary of how the conversation went.

One welcome addition are notes on actions taken after the meeting and any promises made…one for the forgetful.

We have written numerous blogs delving into the detail of each headline feature:

What do you think to the FM 2021 new features and changes to Interaction guys?

I personally avoid interaction like the plague so will be hoping for no repercussions should I continue to send my Assistant Manager.
