Bury FC: Season 1 is finally over!

Published on

Hello Hello Hello! I am very happy to say season 1 of my Bury is story has finally been completed. It has took a long time, but nevertheless, it has been done.

As we started April, we had some bad news. Connor Henderson, on loan from Arsenal had broken his toe so he would not be able to play any more games for us in the season. This left us with only one creative player in Ali Fuseini.

Our first game was against fourth place Morcambe, a game we couldn’t lose otherwise we would fall much behind Rotherham at the top.

BURY TEAM: Richie Branagan; Guilaume Norbert, Sam Sodge, Marco Teani, Danny Fitzsimons; Manu, Marcel Mahouve, Lolo, Robbie Brady; Andy Bishop, Rhys Murphy

We seem to play better against close rivals than we do against teams the we are expected to beat. Andy Bishop and Rhys Murphy gave us a two nil lead at half time. Morcambe pulled a goal back after halftime which got me concerned. I was biting my nails untill the 85th minute when Andy Bishop scored another goal in the game which secured the three points. Also to our advantage Rotherham dropped points in there game against Oxford. They drew which sent us back to the top of the table — much earlier than I expected!

Our next game was against rivals Stockport. Once again we couldn’t drop any points.

BURY TEAM: Richie Branagan; Guilaume Norbert, Sam Sodge, Marco Teani, Joe Skarz; Manu, Marcel Mahouve, Ali Fuseini, Robbie Brady; Andy Bishop, Rhys Murphy

It was a boring game and looked certain for a 0-0 draw. Stockport simply parked the buss, as proven by the stats. Luckily, Nick Blackman, on loan from Blackburn, scored a goal which gave us 3 priceless points in the last minute. Also to our advantage Rotherham dropped points in there game against Shrewsbury. They lost which gave us a four point lead at the top — very suprising!

Our next game was at home against Crewe. A mid-table team that we should be beating. Not for the first time this season, the team decided to take the opposition lightly and got the treatment for it — A defeat!

BURY TEAM: Richie Branagan; Guilaume Norbert, Sam Sodge, Marco Teani, Joe Skarz; Manu, Marcel Mahouve, Ali Fuseini, Robbie Brady; Andy Bishop, Rhys Murphy

Our next game was away to Cheltenham where we were one win away from the title! The match didn’t get off to a good start, Cheltenham scored but it was quickly cancelled out when Marco Teani scored a rare goal from a corner. Andy Bishop gave us the lead in the 67th minute. Our fans were chanting ‘The title’s coming to gigg lane!’ But….. They were silenced when Cheltenham were given a penalty and…. They missed it! We won the game and were confirmed champions of league 2!

After my first silverware at the club was won, we had a few nice messages on my desk:

The last game of the season was at Gigg Lane where 6130 people showed up to see the presentation of the title after the game. The attendence was the highest yet of this season. I decided to play all the players that will be leaving at the end of the season, including the loanees.

BURY TEAM: Richie Branagan; Guilaume Norbert, Sam Sodge, Efe Sodge, Joe Skarz; David Worrall, Steven Shchumacker, Paudie Quinn, Michael Jones; Nick Blackman, Rhys Murphy

League Table

We reached the magic 100 points!

Player Ratings

Despite only playing 15 games this season after a big injury, Andy Bishop was our best player. He was vital for us when Danny Carlton’s morale changed to very poor and his performances dipped

We were also given in total 275k for winning the league which should help us massively financially!

Anyway, thanks for reading!
