Best FM 2013 Stories: Acss’ Steaua Bucharest career

Published on

We continue to highlight the best FM 2013 stories in our wonderful forum and this time the FMS Story Award goes to a FM 2013 story that I enjoy very much, probably because I can relate to it’s difficulty, since the challenge is to take a Romanian club to the peak of European football. The story is beautifully written by Acss and it has gone on through six tough seasons, filled with disappointments but also with very happy moments for our manager.

Let’s see what he has achieved so far with his beloved Steaua Bucharest:

  • Season 1 —  finished 3rd in the league, Romanian Cup 7th round, Europa League round of 16
  • Season 2 —  finished 2nd in the league, Romanian Cup runners-up, Europa League group phase
  • Season 3 —  finished 1st in the league, Romanian Cup quarter finals, Europa League round of 32
  • Season 4 —  finished 1st in the league, Romanian Cup winners, Champions League round of 16
  • Season 5 —  finished 1st in the league, Romanian Cup winners, Europa League round of 16
  • Season 6 —  finished 1st in the league, Romanian Cup winners, Champions League semi finals (defeated Manchester City 6-3 on aggregate in the quarter finals!)

Now let’s see what the manager has to say, enjoy the interview!

Johnny: Please explain why you chose to start a career with Steaua and write a story about it.

Acss: Since the Romanian leagues were added (back in 2006 if I recall correctly), I’ve always started my first save with Steaua Bucharest. The reason is plain and simple, they are my favorites. I have now decided to write a story about it, so that people learn a few things about the club and Romanian football in general, and also to share my experience in getting to know the new features of the edition.

Johnny: You will probably win the CL with Steaua pretty soon considering how good the team is, what will you be doing next in FM 13?

Acss: Well first I wouldn’t be so sure about the CL trophy. This save has been rather frustrating, filled with moments when I really wanted to quit playing. I had to start all over again after being sacked, and pay attention to every single detail to finally reach to a point where the championship has become a formality but in Europe things are even harder, I think we need more experience to succeed on this stage, and of course a little more of some good luck on our side… the draws have been terrible on us so far.

Anyway I’ve already started a new career in FM 2013 as a world traveler, which unfortunately has been put on hold now because of my busy schedule but as soon as there will be more time available I will go for it, and try to manage in as many leagues as I can.

Johnny: What’s the best part about writing FM stories? And the worst?

Acss: It’s hard to tell. There are many good parts in writing a FM story, as there are many bad parts as well. I believe that the best part is the feeling you get when you see the readers react to your updates and you realize that they even got the small details from it, so those couple of hours you invested in this were not really in vain, now I’m not talking about recognition but it’s more about knowing that what you wanted to share has reached its destination, and being able to actually talk to someone about your gaming experience.

On the other side of the coin, the worst thing I believe is the time it takes to write for a good story. As I said, it usually takes a couple of hours to write a nice update (in my case at least), and when you’re having a terrible time management this is going to affect your story, as well as your other activities.

Congrats to Acss on the brilliant career so far and fingers crossed for a big European triumph soon. The next episode of his story might be published by the end of this week, hopefully celebrating another stunning Champions League run.
