Sears — FM2011 Queens Park: Great September results 2010/11

Published on

Hey folks, welcome back to my Queens Park story. After a decent start to the campaign, I was looking to return to winning ways after failing to taste victory in my last two fixtures. We have only three games to play in September so this post will be a short one. In September we have one home game, and two away games. My squad’s strength will be tested as we play two back to back away games against good opposition. Let’s see how we managed to get on during September.

September results:

We had a 100% winning record in September, which boasted our chances of making a consistent title challenge. We only played three games but the players were fantastic as we picked up nine points from the available nine.

Versus Montrose (home) 1/9/10 @ 19:30

Our first game of the month was against Montrose. There predicated to finish last so I expected a victory. We got off to a superb start and took the lead after just eight minutes. Center back Lawrence headed clear and David Lee found himself one on one with the keeper and calmly slotted the ball past him. We created a few more chances after that but on the 33rd minute David Lee scored his second. Left back Murphy passed to my new winger Mackey-Steven who then played a through for Lee and he scored another poachers goal. Just after the interval, Ahmed Said Scored. Pinault played him in and Said wasn’t going to miss. We were 3-0 up. We created more and more chances but failed to put the ball in the net, but Montrose did. However there was no dramatic come back as we held out for all three points.

Versus Albion Rovers (away) 11/9/10 @ 15:00

Our second fixture of the month was away to Albion Rovers, a team predicated to finish 6th. They’d been performing well so far, one of many teams in the mix for one of three play off spots. Before the game my assistant informed me that they play well against a team using a 4-4-2 formation thus therefore I went with a 4-5-1 formation. Dave O’Conner returned from injury and started on the left wing. We got off to a fantastic start. We were 2-0 up after just 21 minutes. Said made a dangerous run down the left flank and crossed but the ball seemed to evade everyone apart from McWalter who waltzed and curled the ball into the bottom corner. A wonderful finish from my ‘inside forward’. A few moments later Webster found Said at the edge of the box. Said turned two defenders before smashing the ball into the top corner. A marvelous individual goal! However Albion started to dominate after that. The longer the game went on the more they grew into it. They created some good chances but they didn’t score until the 75th minute when Sissions tripped an Albion player in the box. They scored from the penalty which set up a nervy finish. After a torrid 15 or so minutes, we held on for the win.  A great defensive performance and thankful my strikers scored when called upon. On a different day this could have been a different result but I was pleased to pick up all three points.

Versus Elgin (away) 18/9/10 @ 15:00

Our final game of the month was versus Elgin, a team predicated to finish 9th thus I expected a win. There having a terrible season, currently sitting near the wrong end of the table. I sent my team out with a 4-4-2 formation. This worked wonders as we scored no less than six goals. Our first goal was from a corner. Set piece specialist Murphy sent in a corner and Rezgane came in at the far post and headed the ball in. Our next goal was scored by Sissions. He scored a long range effort following  Elgin’s failure to clear the ball properly. His sweetly struck shot sailed into the bottom corner. When I saw my next goal, all I could do is applaud my players. This was route one stuff. McWalter picked up the ball, saw and saw the run from Dave O’Conner and picked him out with an amazing pass. Dave just ran into the box and placed it into the bottom corner leaving the keeper with no chance. Said netted our fourth goal just before the interval. Dave turned from goalscorer to provider as his crossed was meet by Said and he half volleyed the ball in to round up a superb first half. Elgin came out more motivated and determined after half time. They scored twice in a 25 minute spell but fortunately McWalter’s cross was met by substitute Stephen Gavin who volleyed home.  We picked up all three points after Lawrence headed in Murphy’s free kick. I was delighted with my teams finishing as any chance we got we scored. Obviously I’m still cautious about my defense, we conceded to slack goals. However I’m willing to turn a blind eye to my defense as my forwards stole the show with six magnificent goals.

Table:

After our perfect month, we moved into 1st place. Thus far were in a great position, just what I wanted at the beginning of the campaign. Not only do we sit 5 points above 3rd place, were 7 points clear of 5th spot. My aim now is to extend that lead and try create from breathing space. This will be tough but we’ll take every game as it comes. Were the ;leagues top goal scorers but our defense is a bit worrying. However you can see that no team other than Clyde have a stable defense. Oh yeah, Clyde caused a shock as they dumped top Scottish side Rangers out of the cup :-D

My player stats and October schedule are as followed:

That concludes today’s post guys, thanks for reading.
