Hello folks, it’s time for you to submit your entries for the March Goal of The Month competition, the lines will be open until Tuesday March 8th. As you already know it was Smithy who won last month’s competition with a stunning wonder goal, you can view it here if you haven’t already. Smithy has won a copy of the book called Football Fables and it’s going to be sent to him shortly.
Smithy’s goal will also be entered in the yearly competition along with Vaibhav C.’s goal from January for a chance to win a free copy of Football Manager 2012! Back to this month’s competition, the book that is going to be offered to the winner is one that I like very much about a team that impressed me and the whole world. The book is called Brilliant Orange: The Neurotic Genius of Dutch Footballand it was written by David Winner.
Here’s a short description of this fascinating book:
The intellectualisation of football has always foundered on a simple problem—the players. Doing all your most rewarding thinking with your feet seems to dull the philosophical impulse. Unless, of course, you are Dutch. According to legend, Europeans played a moronic, muscular version of the world’s game, until Holland proclaimed its vision of total football in the 1974 World Cup, and enlightenment dawned.
In Brilliant Orange: the neurotic genius of Dutch football, journalist David Winner explores his personal fascination with the land that gave the world Van Gogh, Rembrandt and Johan Cruyff—searching for reasons why such a tiny country has produced some of football’s most intelligent, enigmatic and unfulfilled teams.
Trust me, it’s a great read and I’m pleased to offer it as a prize to the one who will win this month’s contest. So what are you waiting for, submit your goals right here by leaving a comment with a link to the goal video!
