Hello Friends and I’m sure we are all excited now that the World Cup is underway. Here’s my latest report but a bit more abbreviated than normal.
Results at a glance
We opened up the new month with a visit to Preston who were one place above us in the table, Sigborsson gave us the lead after 20 minutes after Gunnarsson had played a lovely through ball to him that split the Preston defence. Soon afterwards the home side equalized and it remained all square until the hour mark when some poor defending allowed Preston’s Joshua King to snatch his second of the game. From the kickoff we put together a string of short passes which was neatly finished off by Pilkington but as we were busy celebrating King completed his hat-trick as they scored right from the kick off which I was annoyed about. We deserved a point but the lack of concentration cost us the game.
After the Preston defeat which we were unlucky to lose we conceded an early goal against our next opponents Swansea but the team rallied with Sigborsson getting a brace and his Icelandic compatriot Palsson also getting on the score sheet Javier Garrido got his first goal for the club with a stunning 25 yard free kick.
Our next game was at home to Doncaster who were near the bottom of the table. Borja got us off to a great start and the team eventually put in an efficient performance after some harsh words by me during the half time interval. The young Spaniard added his second of the game in the 48th minute and Sigborsson headed in our third to put the icing on the cake. These two players are establishing an effective partnership up front.
We kept a clean sheet this time around with our first visit to Hillsborough. Borja was simply brilliant again getting us off to a good start with a goal inside 5 minutes and getting another in the second half. Charlie Austin got his first of the season coming off the bench to replace Sigborsson. Daniel Ayala on loan from Liverpool made his first start in defence giving Gohouri a rest.
The final game of the month was against Hull City. Borja’s pace and skill proved the difference in this game as he scored the opening goal within 10 minutes and turned beautifully to lose his man to set up strike partner Sigborsson after the interval. Hull were a tough team to play but our defence showed good strength and character as well as Jansson in goal put in another solid performance.

Next Months Fixtures
So we are up to third place which I can hardly believe though the team is playing quite well and I’ve been able to field almost the same starting eleven this past month. We have a couple of difficult games ahead of us in a shortend November schedule.
Thanks for reading and have a great World Cup weekend!
