The basic Youth Challenge is what most variants of this challenge is built on. They all build around the youth system and the training facilities. Buying players young and train them to be superstars and the sell them on. I have divided the challenges in variant as none really stands out.
A Man Utd Youth Game.
Tip: Take a couple of seasons to phase out players that does not fit you goal. You can get into serious problems if you do so the first season. Especially more reputable players. I would say you should phase out players starting in the second season and then doing that in a 5-year period. By waiting a season you have accrued a reputation at the club that can protect you and you have time to buy replacement players for the players you are phasing out.
Variant: Nationality Challenge
C.D. Guadalajara. Famous for using only Mexican players.
In this challenge you can only use players from the same nation. If you play in the English Premier League you can only use players from England. As home-grown rules come into play you have to rely on the youth system to help you produce players. You can sign them before they are 18 and make them home-grown.
Goal and Rules
Win Europa Champions League.
Only players of the right nation in your team when you do.
Variant: Home-grown Challenge
Athletic Bilbao — Only fields players from the Basque area of Spain.
A more strict version than the Nationality Challenge but more rewarding as you have trained every single player from a young age. But they are not bound by nation either. So as long as you signed them before they are 18 you can go for it. As players from South America can not transfer outside of their home country before they are 18. They are off-limits. If they don’t have dual citizenship with country outside of South America that is.
Goal and Rules
Win Europa Champions League.
Only home-grown players in the team when you do.
Variant: U23-Challenge
This is based on they eligibility rules for the Olympic Games. All players but 3 has to be under 23 years old at the beginning of the season. Although you technically do not need to use the Youth System. Utilizing it will help you with this a lot.
Goal and Rules
Win Europa Champions League.
Only 3 players above 23 in the team when you do (at the beginning of the season).
Variant: Youth Academy Challenge
Barcelona’s youth teams now trains at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.
In this challenge you do not buy players at all but use what the academy gives you. You train the players to the best of you abilities. This challenge is very hard by nature and some great use of tactics and training is needed. Retraining players to other positions is also important.
Goal and Rules
Win Europa Champions League.
Only youth academy graduates when you do.
Variant: Youth 2 Gold Challenge
This is based on Darren’s Youth 2 Gold system. The goals are based on you selling players on to other clubs for better fees.
Goal and Rules
Choose a tactic to work with.
Sell a player from each position in your tactic for double the value that you bought him for. from the goalkeeper to the striker(s). If you have two or more in the same type of position (like central defenders) you have to sell two or more players for the position to count.
You can only buy players under 22 years old (for a tougher challenge even younger).
