GYRFM Swansalona 4-2-3-1 | Best FM23 Tactics

Published on

As part of our mission to bring you the best FM23 tactic, we have put GYRFM’s Swansalona 4-2-3-1 system through our five-team test to see how it compares to other tactics in the community.

Here at FMS we will be testing and creating the best FM23 tactics throughout the year. Not only will we be creating, featuring and testing our own tactics — like this Electric 4-2-4, but will will also test the best from the FM Community.

GYRFM (Gareth) has made a name for himself, creating some of the best tactics seen on FM22 and looks to continue that success with the new game. You can find his tactics over on Hood Gaming’s YouTube channel are they are usually featured on Steve’s stream.

One of the most feared opponents in PvP competitions, he has prove time and time again he knows this game more than most.

You can also see him on Twitch, which is different from your normal save. Watch him step-by-step put together a new formation.

The FM23 Tactic

Swansalona is a 4-2-3-1 system which Gareth has been releasing since FM21 and it is one of the most successful and popular formations in the community.

With four attacking players leading the line, and including two CMs, this system will push defences and dominate in the final third.

Ball Playing Defenders will squeeze up towards the CMs and the Wing Backs take up the space made by the Inverted Winger/Inside Forward.

Upfront, the Advanced Forward leads the line, running the channels which the Shadow Striker will fill.

Playing Fairly Wide, the players will look to hit the Wing Backs and the Wide forward making those inside runs. Using Be More Expressive, the front four will roam, looking for gaps in the defence.

Out of Possession, the Standard Defensive Line should help negate the current issue with defences being caught out with the ball over the top. With Get Stuck In ensuring your team let the opposition know they are there. If you are picking up too many cards in-game, make sure to adjust this.

Testing

With all of our FM23 Tactics Tests we will run the season through with five teams: Chelsea, Rennes, Borussia Monchengladbach, Roma and Villarreal. They are all predicted to finish fifth in their leagues, so the hope is, each tactic will push them towards the Champions League.

Scoring works as follows: Points, Goals Scored, and xG added together, with Goals Conceded and xG Against subtracted and an average scored given from all five teams.

Check out the FMS FM23 Tactics Index for how each tactic has scored.

Results: GYRFM Swansalona 4-2-3-1

Four of the five teams finished third in their league. Roma let the side down, coming eighth in Serie A. However, Chelsea had the most impressive season.

Just three points off the title, they won the Champions League — beating Real Madrid in the final, plus the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. A sensational season from the Blues. Especially as Kai Havertz finished top scorer in the Premier League with 17 goals.

FMS Score

This tactic scores 140.4 on our testing system. Averaging 73 points per team and 77 goals. No surprise it is top of our table as it stands, but as it is early in the cycle, we will have to wait and see how it compares after a few weeks.

There is no doubt this is one of the most devastating formations released for FM23. But will it be one of the Best FM23 tactics?
