Newcastle United are the latest to join the group. Bought by Public Investment Fund last season, they are slowly ramping up their business. Surely it won’t be long until they join the Champions League elite.

FM23 Background Sugar Daddy

A background sugar daddies primary focus is taking care of club stability and financial health. You may get investment towards promotion or growth within your own league but don’t expect much.

In the current game, think Sunderland, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham. Although they have Hollywood millions, the North American duo are trying to push the club up the ladder without breaking the bank.

FM 2023 Underwriter Sugar Daddy

The most common sugar daddy in FM. An underwriter will wipe out bad debt but won’t actively invest in the clubs growth.

Everton, Aston Villa and West Ham United all fall in that category in FM23.

FM23 Underwriter (Expects Return)

Similar to the underwriter, this owner will not be hands on in terms of the daily running of the club, but will consolidate the finances. They come in, steady the sinking boat.

Underwriters usually expect to receive something back from their investment once the debts are clear. They want the club to be successful, thus improving the finances. Then the money they have put in can be recovered.

The FM Editor suggests this is most common in China and Mexico.
