There are four types in FM22. Foreground, Background, Underwriter, and Underwriter (Expected Return).
FM 2022 Frontend or Foreground Sugar Daddy
This is the owner we see in the media and around the club, and perhaps the only type you actually want in your Football Manager save. Think of Roman Abramovich when his first took over at Chelsea, Nasser Al-Kheliaifi and now newly acquired Newcastle United and the Public Investment Fund from Saudi Arabia.
Manchester City changed the game when they were taken over in 2008, and owners showed there is more to being a Sugar Daddy than buying players. Moving into their new training complex in 2014.
FM 2022 Backend or Background Sugar Daddy
A background sugar daddies primary focus is taking care of club stability and financial health. You may get investment towards promotion or growth within your own league but don’t expect much.
This Football Manager 2021 sugar daddy will most likely change to underwriter or even step down altogether.
FM 2022 Underwriter Sugar Daddy
The most common sugar daddy in FM. An underwriter will wipe out bad debt but won’t actively invest in the clubs growth.
FM22 Underwriter (Expects Return)
Similar to the underwriter, this owner will not be hands on in terms of the daily running of the club, but will consolidate the finances. They come in, steady the sinking boat.
Underwriters usually expect to receive something back from their investment once the debts are clear. They want the club to be successful, thus improving the finances. Then the money they have put in can be recovered.
