FM 2014 Regen Dates: Youth Intake Tips

Published on

Hey guys, just a couple of quick tips today on FM 2014 youth intake and the Football Manager 2014 regen dates. Every year I try and find the best new players that FM has generated, those 15 year old wonderkids that can make my save so much more personal.

Last year I noted down every date and tried to make a mental note to check each country for new intake at the appropriate time. But us managers are very busy and I kept missing some very important dates, including Brazil, which led to me missing out on a couple of very promising prospects. Well I’ve made a system to stop all this agony and make my life a hell of a lot easier…rather then check the FM 2014 regen dates manually, I ask FM to remind me! Let me break it down.

FM 2014 Regen Dates — Key Countries

I could spout out every single regen date in FM 2014, but there’s already plenty of lists online and we don’t like to repeat others hard work. So instead below are the countries I like to check for regens, whether it be when I’m bored out of my face or as a ritual.

8th March — Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland, Turkey and Wales

13th March — England

18th March — Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Portugal

25th March — Holland

28th March — Spain

2nd April — Argentina & South Africa

27th August — Japan

20th September — Brazil

I tend to scout through all the top clubs in England, Brazil and Argentina every season if I am a top team…when managing in the lower leagues it depends on how far our scouting stretches, but Wales, Scotland and Ireland can be very handy to check for talent, as well as the clubs around you and in lower divisions.

FM 2014 Regen Dates — How To Set Reminders

Each regen is a ticking time bomb, any wonderkid worth his salt will be offered a contract by his club within days of his intake date. For most that means a hefty transfer fee, but if you can get ahead of the trend and find these regens before their club has a chance to offer them a contract, you’ll just pay a compensation fee as the ‘approach to sign’ option is available.

With this in mind, missing key youth intake dates could be a disaster. To avoid this I simply set reminders on my calender, so that a news item appears in my inbox to remind me when each country has their youth intake, I strongly recommend doing this as below.

Step 1 — Go to your notes or notebook.

Step 2 — Start adding new notes.

Step 3 — Write the appropriate country or countries as the title, remember you need to make a new note for every date you want to set as a reminder.

Step 4 — Now set the date at which this country will receive youth intake. Make sure you set the recurrence to ‘every year’ and click confirm.

Step 5 — That note will appear as a reminder on the specified day, every year, within your inbox and you’ll never miss FM 2014 youth intake again.

Step 6 — When you see a reminder check the top clubs in the countries that have new youth and get signing!

FM 2014 Regen Dates — Where To Look

I have already listed and written about my preferred countries to check for youth intake, so lets see how I search through this endless list. One option is to view the youth teams of these clubs with ‘general information’ showing, so I can filter the list by age therefore bringing the new recruits to the top. After a while you’ll get a feel for what ‘values’ indicate a good regen from a bad one.

Another option is to go to the transfers section and view intake from there. To do this simply click the arrow to the left of your ‘search’ icon in the top right, from the drop down hover over ‘transfers’ and select the continent of the country you want to check. From here select ‘youth intake’ from the drop down box next to ‘transfers’. This should bring up the players that have just been generated in that month. I usually just hover over the ‘i’ icon next to each player to see a glimpse of their attributes.

All very simple really and you only need to set these reminders for the countries you really don’t want to miss. This needs to be done on a save by save basis, but I think its well worth a shot and a few minutes of your time. Hope this helps and if you have any tips, just leave them in the comments below.
