Dorchester Town Story — August 2010 In Blue Square Premier
Hello dear friends, welcome to the first episode of Dorchester’s adventure in Blue Square Premier. We got promoted last season against all odds, I brought in a few new faces during pre-season, now it’s time for the real deal, the first matches. I was extremely curious to see if my lads would be able to cope with the better players in the division. The pre-season friendlies left me in a pretty optimistic mood, let’s see what happened.

Hello dear friends, welcome to the first episode of Dorchester‘s adventure in Blue Square Premier.
As you know the media prediction was not looking good for us, we were deemed to finish 24th which means last. Our first game was away at Crawley, a team that was predicted to end the season in 15th position. We started the game very well, we were in attack during the first minutes and it didn’t take us too long to convert that domination into a goal. Ten minutes into the game a quick exchange between strikers Dabu and Jivan left the second with only the keeper to beat, he placed the ball in to score our first goal in Blue Square Premier. We continued to play well and push forward and eventually Marius Dabu scored the second after latching on to a nice through ball from Dutch midfielder el Kadi. We kept things under control easily in the second half, we even missed a few more chances. It was a solid debut display, I was pleased.
We had another away game coming up, this time against a supposedly better team as Rushden were predicted to finish 5th. We had a good first half once again but this time striker Sergiu Jivan missed two great chances one on one with the opposition goalkeeper. We played even better in the second half but their keeper had a fantastic day, there was no way past him. We kept on pushing forward though and nearly got punished by a late counter attack. I was a bit frustrated because we should have won this game, we played much better than our opponents.
Our first home game of the season was coming up, 680 fans bought tickets to see us playing against Fleetwood, a team that was predicted to finish 21st. It took us only 15 minutes to score the opening goal, a very good and quick team move was coolly finished by striker Marius Dabu. Twenty minutes later one of Fleetwood‘s centre backs got sent off after bringing down Dabu who was through on goal. Things got easier with the one man advantage and we scored another two goals in the second half, both as a result of nice flowing team moves. We did concede our first goal of the season though, I guess my players relaxed a bit too much towards the end of the game.
The next game was at home against Altrincham, they were predicted to finish 18th. I was looking forward to another good performance from my lads and they didn’t let me down. They totally dominated the game and didn’t leave their opponents other options than shots from distance. Marius Dabu scored the opening goal after missing a couple of chances, then we doubled our lead thanks to a deflected shot and made it 3-0 after a team move was finished by right winger Domondi. I was quite impressed with the display, I didn’t expect my boys to play that well to be honest. Go to the next page to read the rest of the story.

Then we had another home game coming up, against Hayes & Yeading, a side that was predicted to finish 19th. My strikers were unstoppable again, Jivan and Dabu were working extremely well together and the first goal was scored by Dabu who latched onto a good pass from Jivan. We were safely in control of the game and 39 year old midfielder Edvard Lasota doubled the lead in the second half with a placed shot from the edge of the penalty area.
The last game of the month was, in theory, a much more difficult one: away at Macclesfield, predicted to finish 7th. We started the game well though, we were dominating the pitch and Marius Dabu gave us the lead with a placed finish. Obviously, the assist was from his attacking mate Sergiu Jivan. Macclesfield produced an instant reply though, a cross into our box was finished off with a great header and the score was level again. My boys took control of the game after the equalizer and we finally managed to clinch it in the second half, a superb long cross from left back Lee Molyneux was finished in style by striker Sergiu Jivan, great first touch and placed finish.
We had a great run of 5 wins and a draw, only two goals conceded and no less than 12 scored, we deserved to be top of the table!
Loanee left back Lee Molyneux was elected Young Player of the Month, his contribution was absolutely fantastic. He ended the month with an average rating of 7.70 and two assists! He is the boss on the left flank, nothing and nobody gets past him and he also likes to go forward and bend in wicked crosses inside the opposition box. I’m very happy that he will spend this season with us on loan, hopefully I’ll be able to offer him a permanent deal someday.
That’s how our first month in Blue Square Premier was, far beyond my expectations. I had confidence in my squad but the way they played so far surprised me, they always keep possession very well and many of our goals were scored after very good flowing team moves. It’s a great joy to watch this team play, I just sit back, relax and watch them dominate their opponents, that’s quite pleasing. There is a long way to go until the end of the season though and you know that I usually don’t get carried away. Well this time I might just do that, I think that we should and eventually will get promoted! Watching this team play gives me that confidence and the only thing that could stop us would be a really bad injury crisis. I hope that won’t happen.
Thanks a lot for reading and for supporting my Dorchester, I hope we’ll have a memorable season.
