Hello everyone and welcome back to another update of my Cambridge FMS. Yes, I know three updates in a week so what’s going on? Well I’m lucky enough to have been on vacation though I haven’t spent all my time playing FM. However thanks to this guy below I still have been up very early each morning so no change in my routine.
As you can see Gibbs tries to make things as difficult as possible for me :)
Though I have found some time to relax this week in the Toronto sunshine!
Well enough about me so let’sget back to what you came here for…
November 2013
The new month started off with the visit of Hull City to the Abbey Stadium which saw a vintage display from central defenders Scott Wootten and Rhys Bennett who defended magnificently and both got on the score sheet as well. DMC Sunny at last got his first goal for the club with an exuberant run from midfield which ended with a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
Prior to this game I did pick up the Manager of the Month award for October.
Our midweek fixture saw us take on high flying Peterborough who lived up to their billing by quickly taking a 2-0 lead inside 25 minutes. Sunny created a chance for Rasmus Falk to pull one back before the half hour mark and a change in tactic after the break eventually paid off with a last gasp goal from Scott Wootten to earn as a valuable point.
A second half strike by Davide Petrucci was enough to give us all three points at home to QPR followed by a thrilling performance by Borja Baston who snatched a last minute equalizer at The Reebok Stadium in an epic top of the table clash against Bolton.
After the Bolton game Wolves approached me to be their manager which I rejected.
I did however apply for two jobs those of Scotland and England Manager as both countries had failed to qualify for the World Cup in Brazil. Gordon Strachan took charge Scotland whilst another Italian will lead England in Euro 2016 qualifiers.
Borja Baston got the only goal of the game at home to Sheffield United but then we turned in a dismal effort losing by a single goal at Selhurst Park
December 2013
The first game of the month was at home to Leicester with Borja Baston getting the only goal of the game striking the ball cleanly into the net from just outside the box.
The next game saw us travel to Blackpool where after taking the lead through Conor Newton the home side scored twice in the space of three minutes to take a 2-1 advantage into the interval. The home side dominated the second half adding a third from the spot but then we staged a late rally with a header from Wootten and Newton again hitting the net. Just when it seemed that a point was ours Blackpool fashioned a dubious looking winner to snatch the game with a minute left of normal time.
Following the cruel defeat away to Blackpool we came up with two consecutive wins over Derby and Cardiff, the latter producing a sensational performance by Darko Boudul who scored a hat-trick in a come from behind victory.
The after Christmas games saw us go down to second place West Brom by two goals to one where fitness rather than skill made the difference in this game.
New Year’s Eve saw the visit of Swansea that up until the last ten minutes of the game was nothing to write home about apart from Gorius giving us the lead just before half time. Shane Williams opened the floodgates with a magnificent strike from distance which was quickly followed by a diving header from Bodul to make it 3-0. Swansea pulled a goal back but Walcott’s sliding effort into the box toe poked the ball into to net to kill the game off completely and ended the year on a positive note.
Results Summary
League Table
At the end of 2013 we find ourselves in fifth place. Not bad really and we have a nice 10 point cushion between us and seventh place Sheffield United so an end of season play-off spot is not really a stretch of the imagination anymore.
Super Sevens
Midfielder Conor Newton heads the pack of super sevens with a rating of 7.24 and has played superbly over the last couple of months.
Fixtures
We will start the World Cup year against league leaders Bolton in the FA Cup followed closely by games against promotion rivals so it should be an interesting start to 2014.
That completes this report though as it’s back to work on Monday my updates will not be quite as frantic as this past week. Anyway as always thanks for taking the time to read this and enjoy your weekend.
