Cambridge United: August 2015 — Heading in the wrong direction…

Published on

Hello friends from around the globe and welcome back to another update of my Football Manager Story. Well as the title suggests, despite having an encouraging pre season the first month back in The Championship things didn’t quite go according to plan. Lets’ take  a look..

The Championship:

We got off to a great start with our return to The Championhip with striker Gianna Bruno scoring twice in the first half an hour and central defender Bandiera heading in a powerful third before half time leaving Swansea reeling in front of their home fans. They eventually pulled one back but we got that all important win in the opening game. Our home opener was nothing short of disasterous as we were overpowered by a boisterous Huddersfield Town leaving us the bitter taste of defeat at The Abbey Stadium. We didn’t fair much better in our next game slumping to a 3-0 defeat at St James’ Park where Xisco stole the show for the home side with a nifty brace. The last game of the month saw us come from behind thanks to an inspirational final twenty minutes by young ML Jeff Webster who set up Sean Power with a late equalizer.

Standings:

Not exactly what I had in mind at the start of August.

League Cup:

First round action matched us up against Wycombe at home who we easily dispatched thanks to fine goals from three of our new signings. The reward was a tricky but manageable game away to Brighton in the following round. The home side gave our defence a torrid time and we succumbed to their pressure in the second half thanks to poor marking allowing Brighton to get the only goal of the game and causing a cup upset.

Transfer News:

We made one unplanned signing  in South African striker  Bradley Ralani which as you will se below was to fill a vacant spot in our front line which occured in the final hours of the transfer window.

Players Out:

Gianna Bruno was the shock last minute transfer going to Recreativo as he no longer considered Cambridge a big enough club for his talents. Gianna was indeed going to be a key part of any succesful season we may have. Darn!!!!

Also on their way was midfielders Ducasse and Valrie as I found myself overcrowded in that department and they couldn’t all possibly play to maintain match fitness. We just made over 1.2 million profit from the sale of these players…not bad!

Other News:

Left winger Jeff Webster won the thoroughly deserved young player award for August and was by far the clubs best player as well.

That concludes this months report with future ones being in two month segments. Thanks a lot for taking the time to read this.
