What is the best FM12 Wonderkid XI – You decide!

written by Darren Smith

Hey guys, just a quick update on one of the Scouting Network’s new features. Over the coming weeks we want you to decide the best FM12 Wonderkid XI, how do you get involved? Well its simple, just read on.

Every 2-3 days there will be a new poll on this post and in the sites sidebar, each poll will offer you the chance to vote from at least five players for who is the best wonderkid. There will be 9 polls in total, covering 9 different positions. The players that receive the most votes will make our ‘FM12 ultimate wonderkid XI’…you will be informed of the results through a post once all the polls have finished.

So just to clarify, starting today there will be a poll in the sites sidebar and the bottom of this post, the first poll is entitled ‘Who is the best young Keeper in FM12’, you have five keepers to choose from, but vote fast as this poll will close in 2-3 days and will be replaced with a poll to decide who the best right back is…the cycle will continue until all the best wonderkids have been voted on for each position, then I’ll post the results with an image of YOUR best wonderkid XI.

When voting don’t worry about the players age, value, asking price, or club, just worry about the players current ability and potential ability. Money does not enter the equation as this is the best wonderkid XI, so cast your votes now and come back every 2-3 days for the next poll! Please also note that when voting for the best centre back and striker, you will have two votes for the same poll.

Polls closed so far

Best young Goalkeeper

Best young right back

Best young left back

Best young central defenders

Best young defensive/supporting MC

Best young attacking minded MC

Best young right winger

Best young left winger

Best young strikers

For me Ter Stegen is a must buy! I have bought on every game i´ve had since I found him, and that is two games with PSG, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Real Madrid.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 6, 2012

I am a huge fan myself but be sure to vote in the poll also if you haven’t already or your opinion won’t be counted. He’s looking good for the Keepers position so far.

  • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 7, 2012

Ter Stegen for sure, I think I have him on all my saves, he is awesome.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 7, 2012

Yeah it would seem as though most people are voting that way.

  • comment avatar Fanza July 7, 2012

if you play with MU from start Obviously De Gea, But if you play with other team It’s Ter Stegen for sure

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 7, 2012

Well this is all about the players ability and potential ability, as mentioned disregard the value, asking price, club, basically everything bar the players ability. But a lot of people will go on what they know and most have signed Stegen at some point, whereas very few will have had De Gea without cheating or managing MU as mentioned.

      • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 7, 2012

I actually have De Gea on 2 saves, one with Real Madrid and the other with Barca, no cheating, payed £30M for him.

        • comment avatar Darren Smith July 7, 2012

I said ‘very few’ people would enjoy him without cheating or managing MU, not ‘no one’ would get him.

          • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 7, 2012

Yeah I know, I just meant thats after a couple of seasons its not that hard to get him (in my experience anyways) for a top club, you’ll need the cash and also he will demand high wages…

          • comment avatar Darren Smith July 7, 2012

What I was basically saying is that unless your the likes of Real or Barcelona he probably won’t want to move and that most managers don’t like spending large sums on keepers…ergo very few people would vote for him through personal experience because very few will have had the chance to manage him.

          • comment avatar yayy July 25, 2012

I was lucky enough to see De Gea almost go out on a free in my Pompey save.

Greedy Keeper wanted 150k a year! Ended up staying at Man U and was only behind Reina as the Best keeper for the EPL in my eyes.

          • comment avatar Darren Smith July 25, 2012

Crazy to see players like that go on a free, but then again the likes of RVP could still do that IRL.

  • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 7, 2012

Yeah thats true Darren, and its a shame, because the computer wont let him reach his full potential.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 7, 2012

I agree, incredible player and even better if an actual human has control.

  • comment avatar Redle July 8, 2012

I chose Ter Stegen because I’ve seen him become almost perfect, but De gea in my saves with man utd never let me down

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 8, 2012

Yeah most the votes seem to be going that way, by the end of today I will open up the new poll for right backs, as the keeper seems to have been decided.

  • comment avatar James Parry July 8, 2012

Thanks for doing this Darren, should be interesting :) i missed the GK poll but i voted for Walker as RB just because im a patriotic idiot ;)

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 8, 2012

No problem, to be honest I don’t think any number of votes would have changed the GK outcome, it was somewhat of a landslide ;) Nothing wrong with being patriotic, besides in terms of quality Walker has a big claim to make the team. I just felt like it was time you guys had a say in the sites content too, other than the usual suggestions of course.

  • comment avatar Sam Birch July 8, 2012

Sime Vrsaljko at RB for sure, cheap and immense!!!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 8, 2012

Thats where my vote went :)

      • comment avatar Sam Birch July 8, 2012

Romario is good too, but I can never get a work permit for him when I play for an English club! Bloody work permits!! Cesar Azpilicueta is good too, signed him on my Bilbao save. Only decent Basque RB

        • comment avatar Darren Smith July 8, 2012

That’s why I love the idea of these polls and the ultimate wonderkid XI in general. You see the shortlist for each position and go…ow he’s good, but what about him, and own my god he’s in there too, who do I choose?!

    • comment avatar Felipe July 15, 2012

  • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 8, 2012

Vrsaljko all the way :D By far my favourite right back. All the players are great though

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 8, 2012

It is a tough decision, and I have found these polls very interesting so far. If you look at the future screenshots I have, the best players aren’t been chosen, but the readers are instead going for players that they can realistically get hold of and reach an excellent level.

  • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 8, 2012

Vrsaljko, he and Ter stegen are always in my clubs :p

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 8, 2012

Yeah, like I said to Karl its interesting how we are all drawn to the players we have personal experience with as opposed to the players who may be seen as better statistically.

      • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 8, 2012

yeah, Romario has sweet potential as well, and I have good experience with kyle walker, so it was between those 3, and in the end I choose Vrsaljko as he is a real monster on some on my later saves, and is actually better then both Romario and Walker… :p

  • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 8, 2012

I’m looking forwards to the LB nominees as thats such a “weak” position so to say.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 9, 2012

It is going to be the weakest shortlist by far.

      • comment avatar Nathan July 14, 2012

Did Jack Robinson get the left back slot? He’s really good, starts with good defending attributes and becomes fast with the right training. A consistent performer (I’m lucky, I tend to play liverpool a lot as I support them :)

        • comment avatar Darren Smith July 14, 2012

He was certainly doing well in the shortlist but you’ll have to wait until the actual wonderkid XI announcement to find out :)

  • comment avatar Ryan Daly July 8, 2012

Well i personally went for Romario – because he is Brazilian – a Brazilian right back is always a good right back. Also i have played with him more than Vrsaljko, who is also immense btw and so is Azpilicueta, havent had much experience with Walker.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 9, 2012

Yeah everyone seems to be going from personal experience.

  • comment avatar Joeyboy July 9, 2012

Definitely Romario, I get him on every single save I do :P Although I have only tried Vrsaljko once, with Roma, so I think I may try him again eventually as he seems to be dominating.

    • comment avatar Joeyboy July 9, 2012

May I also ask who the nominees were for the GK poll cause I missed it :/

      • comment avatar Darren Smith July 9, 2012

They were De Gea, Areola, Stegen, Szczesny and Courtois.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 9, 2012

Yeah, Vrsaljko is my favorite but Romario would come close second for bargain value.

  • comment avatar Ross July 9, 2012

    GK- Ter Stegen
    RB- Vrsaljko
    CB- Zouma
    CB- Kara
    LB- Alex Sandro
    CM- Veratti
    CM- Kovacic
    CM- Badelj
    RW- Shaqiri
    LW- Willian
    CF- Fierro

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 9, 2012

This post is to promote the polls that will be up for you guys to vote on each position, its not here to just list your favorite XI. The polls will be listed every day and a new position will be up for voting every couple of days.

  • comment avatar James Parry July 9, 2012

Whens the next poll up Daz and is it for CB?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 9, 2012

The next one will be up tomorrow or the day after and will be for left back.

      • comment avatar James Parry July 9, 2012

        Oh right ok then! :D

  • comment avatar dzunglv July 10, 2012

Vrsaljko is my most favorite RB, not only for his ability but also the high fitness which helps him play all season long almost without injury.

Wing back is one of the most hard working position but his energy is never drained. His progress rate is fairly high due to high team work and regular first team games.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 10, 2012

Yeah he is probably my favorite also, always hard to find full backs with ability going forward also.

  • comment avatar Heresy July 10, 2012

    666th voter. Go me! xD

I never seem to pick the most popular option :P

GK – Areola: Fantastic physical stats which he develops very early. His mental stats also develop rather well. Certainly one of the top keepers provided that he’s trained by a human manager.

DR – Corchia – His attacking skills are on par with his defence. He also likes to dribble, scored a few great goals for me after cutting inside and shooting from the edge of the area! Apart from that, he’s usually pretty clean, not getting many cards as a result.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 10, 2012

Yeah I think everyones got a different view on who their favorite wonderkid is but I was most surprised by how many votes the winners have had so far. Either way I think any of the candidates would have been deserving of their place in the XI.

  • comment avatar Ryan Daly July 11, 2012

only one winner for me – Alex Sandro is pure class

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 11, 2012

Yeah he’s my favorite too but Robinson may be popular as I think more managers will have had experience with him.

  • comment avatar James Parry July 11, 2012

As a big United fan it was hard for me to go for Jack Robinson but he gets amazing later on in the game!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 11, 2012

Yeh I think he may well be the most popular choice.

  • comment avatar Benjy July 11, 2012

I’ve gone for Rakitskyi simply for those long shots. He has never scored a single one but god that doesn’t stop him from constantly trying as well as blasting all the free kicks straight over the bar. Normally players like that drive me crazy (Aguero for example) but with Rak I find it strangely endearing

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 11, 2012

He is a good player and its always handy to have someone more defensively minded that doesn’t mind a shot or two.

  • comment avatar TommyTomster123 July 11, 2012

For Left back there isnt a question as i manage liverpool i know what Mr Robinson becomes and that is something you dont want to face on the left flank. He also gets a shit ton of assists for me :)

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 11, 2012

He is a good player and one of my best signings with Malaga.

  • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 11, 2012

This time I went for Robinson, simply because he plays for Liverpool :D
    Alex Sandro is class though

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 11, 2012

Yeah I was a little torn myself.

  • comment avatar Yoga July 11, 2012

Why Martin Montoya is not in the list of RB darren. He has a good stats and you can get him for free after playing one season.

    • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 11, 2012

This team is the ‘ultimate’ wonderkid team, so price is dicarded. Montoya is good but he is not as good as the likes of Romario, Vrsaljko, Corchia and Azpilicueta

      • comment avatar Darren Smith July 11, 2012

Karl is right, Montoya was on a shortlist to make this shortlist but he just isn’t near the standard of the players on offer and I wanted to limit the numbers.

        • comment avatar Yoga July 12, 2012

Well, in my current saves he’s better compared to romario but i agree with corchia, he’s the best RB i think, but can not get it in my current saves cause atletico madrid beat me to sign him with better offer.

          • comment avatar Darren Smith July 12, 2012

Yeah but in the majority of saves Romario will be better and its not based on price we already have a cheap wonderkid XI, its based on quality.

  • comment avatar Heresy July 11, 2012

Another oddball choice from me – Fabio. Never tried the Ukrainian player, but the others always lacked something. With Robinson it was dribbling when going forward, With Sandro it was adaptation (never really got going for me) and Rodriguez will never be solid in defence. I feel that Fabio is the most complete DL of the bunch.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 11, 2012

I don’t think Fabio is a weird choice, he’s a very good left back and certainly one of the most consistent and well rounded options.

      • comment avatar Heresy July 11, 2012

I meant more like the ‘not so popular’ choice ;)

By the way, I’m surprised Jose Angel didn’t make it to your list. I think he’s a lot better than Rodriguez to be honest.

        • comment avatar Darren Smith July 11, 2012

I can see why you’d say that, they are both very close to be fair but in my saves Rodriguez has always developed better and I will be using future screenshots in the final post so have to take that into consideration.

  • comment avatar Ross July 12, 2012

think there might be few too many Liverpool supporters voting on this one….surely Alex Sandro is best? also surprised Jose Angel didn’t make the list in one of my saves I moved from spurs to take over as liverpool manager and signed angel, his attributes were phenominal however he never played well for me, surprisingly i had Robinson but never played him, either wasnt aware at the time of his potential of perhaps the computer had never played him before and he never progressed before i joined them. he was mostly in my reserves, but i do agree he can become a great ledt back.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 12, 2012

I think its close between Robinson and Sandro, as for Angel I have already explained this above.

  • comment avatar Thibas July 12, 2012

I think it’s unfair not including José Angel, from Roma, because he’s probably the best left back of FM 2012….just sayin’

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 12, 2012

To say Angel is the best left back is an opinion, in mine he isn’t even good enough for the shortlist…he didn’t make the shortlist for a reason of which I’ve explained so won’t repeat myself.

  • comment avatar James Parry July 12, 2012

I feel like a traitor for voting for Robinson :( lol

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 12, 2012

lol, its quite tight between him and Sandro so hope your vote doesn’t go to waste then :)

  • comment avatar Ryan Daly July 12, 2012

No surprise that Rodriguez is bottom, as most of our readers have probably never tried to sign him because of that massive £60m price tag on his profile.
The closest poll so far, the Alex Sandro supporters were catching up but it looks like Robinson has got it.

    • comment avatar Damion July 13, 2012

I got Rodriguez for a bargain 8 million in my second season with Ipswich I can vouch for this guy he is a beast although the 60 million asking price to begin with is ridiculous

      • comment avatar Darren Smith July 13, 2012

Yeah he’s a good buy if cheap but that recent move of clubs makes his starting price horrendous.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 13, 2012

Yeah I was one of the Sandro supporters but looks like he’ll just miss out.

  • comment avatar Ryan Houng July 13, 2012

Why isn’t Gareth Bale in the list?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 13, 2012

He isn’t a proper left back, he’s best used on the wing and will be in the appropriate shortlist.

  • comment avatar James Parry July 13, 2012

Phil Jones because he’s one of my fav players and zouma because he turns to the best cb in the world!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 13, 2012

Yeah they are both incredible wonderkids.

  • comment avatar grunf lazial July 13, 2012

darren dont get me wrong this is not moaning just observation u know i appreciate u r work and opinion but as i ussually take low/middle ranked clubs i think sakho is waay overrated for the things he do on the pitch and he never grow up to expectations, the others ???? u really bothered training them??great job i never did just didnt thought they were worth it,BUT:papadoupulos BIG YES and prestia is a true GEM!!!!he developes sooo good its tremendous, and just 2 questions:why not put toloi on list hes waay better than at least 4 of those 7 on list is it cose hes i dunno 22-23 years old in start of game?and sylanda xulu:get im for a bargain made him a world class defender,in my opinion he gets to be on list way before boyata, nkoulou, zuma and kara?cheers m8

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 13, 2012

I think opinion on Sakho will be split depending on your experience with him but most I have spoken too rate the kid highly. You’re right on Toloi, as mentioned there is an age cap on this best XI, but I must say he isn’t better potentially than 4 of the 7 players, TBH he’ll be lucky to go beyond the potential of two on the shortlist IMO. As for Xulu he just is no where near good enough, he is nothing on Boyata, Zouma and Kara in patch 12.2…I think their profiles are proof of that alone…or not on a consistent basis anyway as I have never seen him touch their ability 5-6 years in.

  • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 13, 2012

Zouma was an easy chice, IMO he becomes the best CB in the world. The second choice was harder but I decided to opt for Papadopoulos.
Looks like this poll will be much closer than the others

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 13, 2012

They were my choices also, both brilliant players but any on the shortlist are deserving IMO.

      • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 13, 2012

Think me and you have for the same people every round Darren!

  • comment avatar Heresy July 13, 2012

Kurt Zouma – because he has amazing attributes. Was going back and forth between him and Prestia but in the end, Zouma won :)

Nkoulou – I’m surprised there aren’t many votes for him. He’s a rock solid CB and can also be deployed as DM (and with great success). Sticks like glue to the one he’s marking, very rarely makes any mistakes.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 13, 2012

Yeah a lot of people like Zouma, tbh I thought he’d have more votes but the shortlist seems to be scattering opinion.

  • comment avatar jude July 13, 2012

If you take away the price tag, i believe Courtois becomes the best goalkeeper. Bought him for 12m with Derby nd with a poor defence he kept 14 clean sheets – legend.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 13, 2012

Yeah he made the shortlist for keepers due to his quality and great potential.

  • comment avatar Yippy July 14, 2012

Sorry to be picky but isn’t it Giuseppe Prestia, as opposed to Raphael Prestia?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 14, 2012

I was on dinner and rushing to publish everything, will correct that now, thanks.

  • comment avatar Andreas July 14, 2012

I have tyed all of thise centerbacks exept from N´Kolou. Kara is good for a team like Tottenham the first season and he is exeptionally cheap, but with my Tottenham i win premier league every season, and the he´s just not good enough for me. Both Jones and Papadoupolus is worldclass when you start the game but their price is way too much, but in the third or fourth season you can get Jones for about 20£ million. for me I needed an good and young center, too fill up for Michael Dawson side by side with Benedicht Höwedes, and i went for Prestia. now in his second and my third season he has scored a lot of goals on corners and he´s incredible defensive too! ;)

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 14, 2012

I agree with just about all those views, but couldn’t disagree more on Kara…I signed him for Malaga and he was my best player for like 6 seasons, we won the treble two seasons in a row with him scoring 15+ goals a season from centre back, Kara had the highest average rating every season while we were winning the CL constantly, voted best player in Europe and his value rocketed over £25 million.

      • comment avatar Andreas July 14, 2012

for me he flopped when I was Newcastle, but he can play different on each saves :/ but he´s one of the games best centres, and it´s also rare that he playes for Tromsø, who´s from my country Norway…

        • comment avatar Darren Smith July 14, 2012

Yeah I can imagine him not suiting certain managers tactical style and training at times, but I just love him, I think he’s this years true bargain.

          • comment avatar Andreas July 15, 2012

Yeah, and his real cheap too :)

      • comment avatar Heresy July 14, 2012

Actually, I usually buy Kara for his headers and versatility. There are better defenders out there.. he has little pace and zero agility. If he gets passed.. well.. that’s it. The others are faster and more agile so if I really wanted a strong -defender-, I wouldn’t opt for Kara myself. Those set piece headers are simply amazing though ;)

        • comment avatar Darren Smith July 14, 2012

All I can say is he was unstoppable in my Malaga side and when you’re as good a stopper as Kara your catch up skills aren’t too important. But we all go off our own experiences, mine with Kara was the best I’ve had from a CB in FM ever, so thats why I’m so passionate about him, but I’m sure others haven’t seen the same, then again he is third in the poll so far so he does seem to be quite popular.

  • comment avatar Josef July 14, 2012

its gotta be sakho and papadoupolos whenever ive used them they have been amazing even from the start they are both quality and in my opinion turn out to be the best CB partnership in the game

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 14, 2012

I like both players and could see them making a nice partnership.

  • comment avatar Elias July 15, 2012

I’m missing Sandro in the DMC vote. My favourite player in that position by far!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 15, 2012

Not sure what happened there, two names were missing from the poll, Sandro one of them and Rodwell the other…I’ve sorted the problem now though, thanks.

      • comment avatar dzunglv July 15, 2012

I missed DMC and DC vote:( This vote is amazing. Will it turn around and another to vote continuously? :D Forget to check the site some days and we will miss many things :(

        • comment avatar Darren Smith July 15, 2012

These polls will be closed and another one opened every two or three days. You didn’t miss a DMC vote as there wasn’t one, this vote is for the more defensive and supporting minded midfielders then the next one will be for the more attacking minded CM’s. It was just the CB vote that you missed.

          • comment avatar dzunglv July 15, 2012

If it is so, i really want to add Lorenzo Crisetig to the poll today:( He just needs time before he shines.

Darren, will you continue the site for FM 2013!? Hope you will! I am fan of your work which improves the game itself a lot!

          • comment avatar Darren Smith July 15, 2012

There will be no additions to the list I’m afraid…I could have a shortlist as long as my arm but I have to limit the numbers in each poll I’m afraid.

Don’t worry about the site, it will be around long after FM13 unless something out of my control happens.

  • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 15, 2012

M’vila for me, he’s one of my favourite central midfielders

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 15, 2012

And we vote the same again lol :) TBH I think there’s only ever one winner for this position.

  • comment avatar dzunglv July 15, 2012

M villa i choose from the candidates but frankly, Phil Jones and Andrea Poli are my first team CMs now (Sunderland). If there were third choice for me, it is Fellaini from Everton (not sure he is young enough for the vote). Just my opinion, Darren :)

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 15, 2012

Yeah that is the only problem with these polls, I am bound to forget one or two players. But Fellaini is too old and Jones was in the CB poll.

  • comment avatar Heresy July 15, 2012

I can’t decide who to vote for. For a defensive midfielder there’s no doubt M’Vila is the favourite. But I’d also like to pick Badelj for his creativity and passing.. Missing Aaron Ramsey here but perhaps (and I sure hope that) he makes it onto the attacking midfielder list

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 15, 2012

Ramsey is on the attacking midfielders list…I had to go for players with some sort of defensive ability for this list so that is why he was preferred in the attacking shortlist.

  • comment avatar Hlf July 16, 2012

Hmm, apparently I voted for Jali though I meant to vote for M’Vila, I don’t think he needed the help though!

  • comment avatar Reece July 17, 2012

    Zouma all the way!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 17, 2012

Yeah he was one of my selections in the poll.

  • comment avatar John July 17, 2012

Who won “Best young left back”?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 17, 2012

We won’t be revealing any final results until all the polls are finished…but you won’t have too long to wait.

  • comment avatar Rob July 18, 2012

I went for Kovacic as he is cheap and easy to get and becomes an immens playmaker, I can see why others have gone for Kroos but he is way too expensive for my liking.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 18, 2012

Yeah I like kovacic a lot but as mentioned in the post, prices, values and clubs are out the window on this wonder kid XI as its to decide the very best regardless of price.

  • comment avatar cobham July 18, 2012

I went for Gylfi, his longshots and free kick ability is out of this world.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 18, 2012

Yeah I know, one or two gamers look at his attributes, see a set piece specialist but no more…that is what separates the gamers that are successful from the ones that struggle IMO. Being able to look beyond what you can see and read between the lines so to speak is important and Gylfi is a good example of that IMO.

  • comment avatar Yoga July 18, 2012

I think this position will be very difficult to choose because there are so many great players in this position, even marco verratti is great player in this position (sadly, he’s not good enough to be in your list darren). But, i go with sigurdsson, he has great free kick, good passer and can score more than 20 goals in one season.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 18, 2012

Yeah this should be one of the toughest to pick for sure…the poll is extremely tight so far, I think this is the first one where I’ve had to sit and think for more than 10 seconds about my choice. :)

  • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 18, 2012

This one was a difficult decision for me, Sigursson is great, Ganso is a technical God but I decided to go for Thiago, I just think he immense. This one has been the most difficult so far

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 18, 2012

I agree, I honestly could find reasons to pick any of them and good reasons at that…this is the first poll we have differed in, I preferred Kovacic only from personal experience with him.

      • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 18, 2012

Kovacic is great too, but then again so is Wilshere, Ramsay, Kroos and Eriksen. This is by far the most difficult, having said that I’ve seen the wingers and they’re pretty difficult :D

        • comment avatar Darren Smith July 18, 2012

Wait until I show you the strikers lol ;)

          • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 18, 2012

Yeah that is going to be reallllly difficult, probably will take me a week to chose my picks lol

  • comment avatar Josef July 18, 2012

Eriksen all the way he is just an assist god and capable of scoring the odd goal.I dont know why so many people have voted for ganso because, my experience with him has been torrid playing more than 30 games and returning with 1 goal and 2 assists with an average rating of 6.1

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 18, 2012

If people have voted for Ganso then it will be because he’s been their version of you Eriksen, I’m sure there are people thinking the same about Eriksen. It all depends on your man management, tactics and team talks etc.

  • comment avatar Heresy July 18, 2012

I’ve only ever tried 5 of these players and it took me a while to decide between them :P

Thiago – played him for only 2 seasons. Can;t say a bad word about him. There just wasn’t any fireworks happening.

Aaron Ramsey – he’s usually pretty quiet but I just love watching him deal up the balls behind the attackers. Sadly, he’s more of a supporting than an attacking player..

Sigurdsson – gotta adore those long shots and set pieces! Unfortunately, that’s about all he has to offer. I like my AMC to also have quite good pace, creativity and passing. In other words, assist just as much as score himself.

Jack Wilshire – I remember a save when he was all I needed up front :P Went in, scored a hattrick, got subbed in 60th minute. Repeat ;) Also claims quite a few assists despide low-ish passing and creativity. Love him for his versatility as well.

But in the end I chose – Mateo Kovacic – 20 creativity and passing, high anticipation, great technical skills… When he develops fully, he’s the boss of the midfield. I can’t find a weak point in his skillset :) That’s probably why he’d won my vote :)

  • comment avatar Walter July 18, 2012

Gotta go with Sigurdsson on this one. This guy is an absolute beast in every game I’ve seen with him. Many times scoring and assisting over 20 goals (each respectively).

If I had another choice it would probably be Wilshere but Sigurdsson is definitely the winner for me.

I don’t know why Ganso is winning, he never did well any time I saw him :(

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 18, 2012

I know a lot of people who say Ganso has been incredible, it all depends on your tactics etc. I’m sure a few people don’t understand Sigurdsson been up there as he may not fit into their systems. I personally went for the outsider in Kovacic, I have a thing for him.

      • comment avatar Walter July 19, 2012

Hm, I’ve never had any experience with Kovacic, but I guess with the amount of votes he’s receiving, I definitely should check him out.

Also how far was Erick Torres from being on the shortlist? I’ve had great experiences with him too (very well rounded) and he’s fairly cheap too.

And I am not sure, would Felipe Gutierrez count as a winger or midfielder because I felt he should have gotten a nod too.

GAH! Maybe it’s just that there are too many great midfielders in the game! :P

        • comment avatar Darren Smith July 19, 2012

Torres is not an MC so wouldn’t feature in this list..he may make it into the strikers list. As for Gutierrez, he is no longer available in the latest patch under our ruling so won’t feature.

  • comment avatar bes771 July 19, 2012

We can see the results of the previous votes or your preselections in every category?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 19, 2012

You will see the best XI, which will be the wingers of each position when all the polls are done.

  • comment avatar dzunglv July 19, 2012

My vote for Wilshere but honestly i think the poll will go for Sigurdsson. Sigurdsson is favor of many people (including me). Always does good right from the first season, even in big games. And his goals are amazingly beautiful!

I have Sigurdsson and Wilshere in my Sunderland game save. Sigurdsson is the first choice for the first 2 seasons. But from the third one, Wilshere is far more better and more consistent. But since the AMC player often gets tired quickly, the rotation tactic always does good.

  • comment avatar dzunglv July 19, 2012

Oh and for Wilshere’s progress rate, nothing satisfies me more, incredibly quick!

  • comment avatar dzunglv July 19, 2012

after 1 hour and now Sigurdsson on top. I told you! LOL

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 19, 2012

Haha, yeah you predicted that one…I still think there’s some twists and turns to come yet though.

  • comment avatar silva July 20, 2012

    G. Sigurdsson for me managed him at Southampton great

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 21, 2012

Its close but he is just piping it.

  • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 21, 2012

I voted for Thiago (half by mistake, half by being a Barca fan ;)

But I ACTUALLY think Wilshere is the best, his potential is sick.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 21, 2012

Thiago is incredible but so is Wilshere and many others, I think this poll is the toughest to choose from.

  • comment avatar bes771 July 21, 2012

Hi Darren, I would like to create a shortlist with your preselection in each position. Could you help me to find all your reserved players of the first 5 categories?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 21, 2012

      Here they are:

Keepers – Stegen, Szczesny, De Gea, Courtois, Areola
right back – Vrsaljko, Corchia, Kyle Walker, Azpilicueta, Romario
left back – Alex Sandro, Fabio (Man Utd), Jack Robinson, Ricardo Rodriguez, Yaroslav Rakitskyi
centre back – Kurt Zouma, Mamadou Sakho, Kara, Phil Jones, K. Papadopoulos, Nicolas NKoulou, Boyata, Prestia
def mid – Yann M’Vila, Andile Jali, Andrea Bertolacci, Moussa Sissoko, Romula, Milan Badelj, Sandro (Spurs), Jack Rodwell

      • comment avatar bes771 July 21, 2012

        I thank you a lot.

  • comment avatar Ryan Daly July 21, 2012

having been on holiday i missed all the polls since the left back poll. My centre back choices would have been the same as Karls. in def mid i would have went for Mvila and i dont know who the choices were for att mid but im guessing my vote would have went to Thiago i have a thing for him but it would have been so hard to choose from. I am guessing by the comments that Zouma and Papadopoulous won the CB, Mvila the DMC and Sigurdsson the AMC.
Also i went for Gotze as the left winger he is in a class of his own (i am one of his biggest fans IRL).

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 21, 2012

Well some of the selections went to the wire so there may be the odd surprise but we are getting close to finding out.

  • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 21, 2012

I am big fans of Sterling, obviously, Delefou and Valencia but my vote went to gotze, he’s a cut above the rest

  • comment avatar Wellington July 21, 2012

Hey guys, sorry to ask where else I can download the latest patch update pro fm2012?

While searching, surely Götze, in my man utd he was 2 times the 3rd best in the world!

    Thank you!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 21, 2012

You can only download the latest patch through steam.

  • comment avatar Josef July 21, 2012

Finally a poll where i have used all the players available and my vote this tine has to go to douglas costa mainly for his insane shooting and freekicks but all of the players are extremely good and i thought it would be closer but gotze is steamrolling into the lead

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 21, 2012

Yeah there some great names in there but none touch Gotze for quality IMO…Costa is great in terms of his shooting prowess but Gotze is just a magician.

  • comment avatar Heresy July 21, 2012

I’ve only used 3/7 of those players, and only Costa has been with me for more than 4 years into the game. I can’t cast a vote on this one :(

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 21, 2012

Haha, yeah its a tough choice…but I think despite the class of Costa there is one winner within this poll. Anyone who has managed Costa will probably vote for him, but anyone who hasn’t got an alliance will go for Gotze IMO.

      • comment avatar Heresy July 22, 2012

I wanted to go for Costa, but the only reason for it would be that I don’t know any other player. In this case, Costa isn’t the best, he’s just the only player I know ;)

If I happened to manage Goetze, and liked him, then perhaps he’d be my choice as well, or perhaps if i’ve had a good Joel Valencia version, he’d get my vote in the end.

I just don’t feel competent enough.. most of my right wingers weren’t fully developped or were regens. Hope I’ll have more luck with the left side :)

  • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 22, 2012

Gotze , an easy choice for me, he has reached Messi potential in my latest game, he needs a little for finishing an he will become legendary.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 22, 2012

Yeah I think Gotze is a class above the rest.

  • comment avatar Yoga July 22, 2012

I think for this poll the winner is quite clear.. But, why willian does not include in this list darren?

    • comment avatar Heresy July 23, 2012

I’ve got a sneaky suspiscion Willian will be featured on the left wing :) Played him as an inside forward in my Malaga save and he became my star of the season in the first two years.

      • comment avatar Darren Smith July 23, 2012

As mentioned in the post anyone over 21 year of age is not included in this list, Willian is 22.

        • comment avatar Heresy July 23, 2012

Which post? If it’s in the discussion, not everyone has read it. And there’s no information in the intro. Perhaps the word ‘wonderkid’ should be a clue.. hmm.. ;)

Anyway, that’s too bad. Willian would definitely make it onto the list.

          • comment avatar Darren Smith July 23, 2012

In the discussion to be fair so as said not everyone will have seen that, I have just answered the same query a number of times so feels like common knowledge to me while I guess it isn’t.

  • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 23, 2012

Hazard should be in then I suppose, him and Gotze makes a wonderful duo in my Barca hehe.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 23, 2012

Hazard will definitely be in his natural position of left wing.

      • comment avatar Niclas July 24, 2012

When will the left wing poll come up? :)

  • comment avatar bes771 July 24, 2012

    Hi Darren
Even if the votes are closed, just one question. I believed that Luis Guilherme was one of you best goalkeeper, I make a mistake? You did not include him in the list of goalkeeper. It’s because you think that 5 others are better?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 24, 2012

I think you’re right, I must have just bypassed him I think…but to be honest I don’t think he’d have come close to winning anyway.

  • comment avatar Ryan Daly July 24, 2012

I couldnt make my mind up on this one – any of these left wingers could have got my vote, but i narrowed it down to Hazard, Lucas Moura and James Rodriguez, 3 of my favourite players on FM and real life. I took so long to decide this but my vote goes to Hazard, he is absolutely fantastic – not that the others arent, i just think Hazard can play in many roles so is a better option for any team and also –> he is a pure beats on the left wing as an inside forward !

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 24, 2012

Yeah I agree, the poll is close but to be honest I was always going for Hazard after managing him with Malaga.

  • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 24, 2012

Hazard for me, looks like he will walk this one. Although Moura is one of my favourite players and was close to getting my vote

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 24, 2012

Yeah I think he’ll walk it too, Moura is awesome and who can forget the likes of Bale but most gamers will feel an affiliation to Hazard.

  • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 24, 2012

God, I love both Moura and Hazard, in the end I went for hazard though.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 24, 2012

Yeah I think Hazard can offer more early on and at a better price probably gets just ahead of Moura for most.

      • comment avatar Alexander Ceol July 24, 2012

yeah I only got Moura because his club was relegated, then had him mentored by Messi ^^

    • comment avatar Heresy July 24, 2012

Had the same dillema but also voted for Hazard. Tried Moura once and he wasn’t consistent enough, while Hazard can win the game singlehandidly even in 2011/12 season.

Haven’t tried most of the other plaeyrs, or signed them for only a season or two before they fully developped but if there’s a left winger who can offer more than Hazard does, please let me know and I’ll gladly sign him to see that for myself :)

  • comment avatar Niclas July 26, 2012

Definately Lucas! After a couple of years with human training he develops into a total beast! A right footed Messi.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 26, 2012

Yeah he is great but general opinion seems to side with Hazard.

  • comment avatar Niclas July 26, 2012

Unfortunately yes. Just think that Lucas develops to be a better player than Hazard.

  • comment avatar Ryan Daly July 27, 2012

I have been looking forward to the striker poll. There are so many options for that position, that picking 5 will be as hard as picking the winner.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 27, 2012

They’ll be more than 5 mate, a lot more!!! I just can’t bring myself to leave some of them out of the shortlist ;)

  • comment avatar Karl Deighton July 27, 2012

I tried to pick a Target Man and Poacher, so I chose Neymar and Sanogo, I once brought Neymar for liverpool and he was prolific, Sanogo is just a beast, brought him for Malaga when he was fully developed, just immene. So both picks from personal experience

  • comment avatar cobham July 27, 2012

This is a tricky one !

  • comment avatar Heresy July 27, 2012

Second poll in a row I voted for the most popular option. Hmm… ;) Anyway, picked Neymar because of his flair, technique and versatility. That kid is pure brilliance. I’ve had a little bit of a problem who to choose for the second vote but went with Fierro in the end becasue of his consistency and anticipation. He may not have the best overall stats, but the combination of them makes him a top class forward.

If i could pick a third option, I’d probably go for Sanogo. Had two saves where he’s been brilliant. Finally I can see why he’s such a popular transfer target.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 28, 2012

Yeah I went for the same, tough choice though.

  • comment avatar Ryan Daly July 27, 2012

Its got to be the two Brazilian boys for me.

Neymar becomes one of the best players in the game – almost as good as ronaldo
Damiao is just a complete machine

Probably early this week, there will just be an XI.

  • comment avatar burning R July 30, 2012

I think they were most peoples choice.

  • comment avatar Thibas July 30, 2012

darren mate, could you please take a look at Miguel Medina in some of your future saves? cagigao gives him 4 stars at the age of 18 and i could buy him for 2,5 mil euros. is he worth buying?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith August 8, 2012

He isn’t worth buying IMO mate.

oo thanks mate. I think you should take a look at Valencias Sergio Canales and Ever Banega, two young mc. they re looking good to me at the beginning thou i am not sure about the asking price.

        • comment avatar Darren Smith August 8, 2012

Both decent players but haven’t got good enough future profiles of them.
