FM 2014 Wonderkids To Watch – Neílton
written by Darren Smith

Neílton
Club: Santos (Brazil)
Position: ST/AML/AMR
Age: 19
Nationality: Brazilian
The kids a bit like: Neymar
Interested clubs: Tottenham
Many call him the new Neymar, due to an uncanny resemblance to the once Santos star in appearance, position and potential. Neílton is a product of the Santos academy, having joined aged just 14. This potential FM 2014 wonderkid is very versatile, bolstering the ability to play up front or on either wing as an inside forward, a quality that attracted attention.
It was only recently that the young gun won promotion into Santos’ first team, but he took the chance with both hands. Upon Neymar’s departure Santos had to rely on someone and who better than his apparent clone. Scoring 4 goals from 11 appearances Neilton lit up the Brazilian top flight with flair and mesmerizing ball control.
Just this summer Tottenham were tracking the young Brazilian, weighing up a reported £7 million bid. Those rumours soon stopped though, after the player reaffirmed his commitment to Santos and desire to stay in Brazil. All good news for you FMer’s, this kid could be a great FM 2014 bargain.
Neilton Santos stats 2012/13
Brasileiro Serie A: Appearances: 11 / Goals: 4 / Assists: 1
What should we expect from this FM 2014 wonderkid? He’ll probably be natural as poacher and inside forward from the the left. Great pace and acceleration should be complimented by flair, dribbling and technique in abundance. Rather surprisingly Neilton could have very good work rate too, he’s prepared to put a shift in going backwards as well as forward. In the match engine look out for some silky skills and lots of goals coming in from the left.
By the way, Football Manager 2014 has been announced and you can pre-order the game from us to get access to the beta version two weeks before the full game release.

Did you do this after my comment on the stats improvement topic on the forums ;) ? Definitely think he’ll be one of the next wonderkids to watch from Brazil, along with Vitinho and Vinicius Araujo.
Sorry I have no idea which comment or even topic you are referring too, got to be honest unless its replying to stories when available or answering questions I can’t find the time to read everything in the Forum. I just did some research on Footballer’s in Brazil and this kid seemed to be highly rated so did my digging from there.
If I’d used the opinion or advice of a reader then I’d have left a mention in the post, like I am doing in the next one.
Ah okay didn’t mean to be rude :)
No not at all mate, you weren’t rude. I found the thread you were speaking of in the forum last night, weird coincidence :) And I don’t blame you for assuming that comment was the starting point for the post, I would have assumed the same.
As a Santos fan I can tell you some facts about neilton. He is a horrible player, he has no capacity to drible players constantly, he isn’t fast at all as he should be and he can’t finish well. I can’t actually blame the people that don’t watch the brazilian championship for not knowing that neilton is a very overrated prospect. Calling him the new Neymar is ridiculous. I expect him in the best case, to be a first team player of a brazilian second division team.
Everyone has there opinion and yours I’m sure is just as valid as the rest. But there are an awful lot of positive reviews from very respected journalists and scouts, not to mention a lot of video footage suggesting otherwise. But I guess that is no substitute for actually watching a player game in game out for 90 minutes at a time.
The braces certainly add to the idea of ‘wonderkid’. Also I’ve only just noticed it but I really like the little silhouetto man in the bottom right corner. It’s nice.
Yeah they certainly do add more realism to the title :) Glad you like the silhouette, its a new background, designed to make the site load faster ;)
That’ll be good for your SEO scores I’m sure. I remember when I first visited this site, it was a little manic but it continues to look better and better. Keep up the good work!
Yeah that was part of the reasoning alongside trying to improve the users experience of course. We’ll keep trudging along :)
Neymar emerged at 17, this guys 19 so I don’t think he’ll be as good
Probably not, but even if he can get close he’ll be a real talent.
