This FM 2014 Player Profile of Will Hughes shows one of the best young talents in FM14, a true magician in midfield and fairly cheap too. You could use Hughes as a deep lying playmaker, but I prefer him as an advanced playmaker. You can take advantage of his dribbling skills and finishing that way. What he really excels in is passing and reading the game. But to be honest, he developed to be such an all rounder in one of our readers saves you can try almost any attacking role.

Some mind blowing attributes and great performances put this kid forward as one of the best value buys in FM 2014…he costs £10.5 million upon loading a new save, a bargain for such a classy midfielder.

He seems a great player, I try to bid first week with Newcastle but they won’t budge for anything less than £12 m :(

    • comment avatar Darren Smith October 16, 2013

With Arsenal I just tried offering in increments of 500K and at 4.5m included a clause to loan him back to Derby for the season, they then started negotiating and I got them down to £7 million…it really does vary TBH, I’ll adjust the price to £7.5 million as that is what I have experienced more commonly with the BETA.

      • comment avatar Gaurav Chaddah October 16, 2013

Ah right fair enough, have you come across any decent attacking wingers yet? Struggling to find any.

        • comment avatar Darren Smith October 16, 2013

We have a lot more profiles to come, but none are of dirt cheap players who specialize in the winger role. Below are some options for inside forwards or players that could adapt to that role maybe and some are well priced, all develop very well.

          Bakkali
          Depay
          Stanciu
          Bernard
          Insigne

            Cheers mate :)

  • comment avatar Abdirisaq Osman October 16, 2013

He has become too good. Last year in your 4-5-1 he was cm (s) so good. My favourite England player 2 goals in his first two internationals. Can I do some profiles when my beta downloads? I`d like to help lower the load.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith October 16, 2013

He is certainly one of the better wonderkids this year and deserves it IMO due to his form for Derby.

At the moment we aren’t accepting any new profilers to the team, purely because this year we have made everything much more structured and organized, to invite anyone in right now would cause a few issues and take up too much time training which we can’t afford until the rush period is over. We will eventually be looking for scouts again though so appreciate the offer. Until then you are more than welcome to send any future screenshots from 2018 or beyond to my email address and I will see if we can use them. darren[at]footballmanagerstory[dot]com

Where did Norwich get that money from!? haha

    • comment avatar Darren Smith October 17, 2013

Haha, there’s many theories, some say Delia had a major book release :)

    • comment avatar Toby October 25, 2013

I have start 4 different games and in 3 of them Norwich have been bought by a sugar daddy who has invested massive amounts of cash, I guess that they will be one of those teams where people see it regularly this year.

  • comment avatar - BJ (@UnhappySchurrle) October 18, 2013

I managed to get him for Ajax for £4.4m? Every save I’ve started so far, he goes for that much too.

Also, what about a profile of Lucas Romero from Velez? Very, very good.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith October 18, 2013

Wow great buy, much cheaper than we managed with Arsenal. I’ve been looking at Romero, he’s very talented, just not sure whether to do the profile yet as the screenshots we have are good but not great, he could develop much better than they show. He will be done at some point for sure though.

    • comment avatar Johnny Karp October 18, 2013

      With or without additional clauses?

  • comment avatar niall October 19, 2013

does Norwich get bloody rich or something? how’d they afford a 35 mill transfer fee??

    • comment avatar Darren Smith October 19, 2013

There taken over by a rich chairmen.

  • comment avatar shay November 4, 2013

is he better than James Ward-Prowse

    • comment avatar Darren Smith November 4, 2013

Too close to call, I think it would come down to personal preference and how you develop them.

  • comment avatar Neil November 6, 2013

£6.25m and loan back got me Hughes for newcastle

  • comment avatar Neil November 7, 2013

I thought so too, he is getting regular footy, something i couldn’t guarentee in my first season with newcastle and he is doing well for both derby and the U21’s.

He will defo gets games next season, I just have to find a system to accomodate Sissoko, Cabaye, Ince, Ben Arfa, Hughes, Fierro, Cerri and Barbosa! I’m sure Cissé won’t mind being on the bench haahaa

got him for 6.5 mil with a loan back for the season with LFC 2 weeks into a new save

    • comment avatar Darren Smith November 20, 2013

Good buy considering what he can become.

  • comment avatar Νικόλαος Δανιηλίδης December 6, 2013

I bought him to Fulham 4.5m Euro at 2015 :P
4 Stars now 5 prospect xD
    Best transfer EU.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 6, 2013

Thats a bargain buy right there.

  • comment avatar matt December 13, 2013

Him and James Ward-Prowse single -handedly won World Cup for England in 2018 in my save.
P.S he almost never resigns his contract, so you get him for a low price in 2015 i guess…same with Kurt Zouma

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 13, 2013

      They are both incredibly talented.

  • comment avatar Steve December 21, 2013

Signed this kid for forest after getting them promoted 1st season. 7 million and it felt even better snatching him from derby!!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 21, 2013

Yeah I got him with Wigan, hoping he can develop as he did above.

      • comment avatar Engin December 24, 2013

I think he can develop far better. Has almost same attributes with this SS in my Wigan save but hes 22! Also signed him for 3.6m pounds in 2015

        • comment avatar Darren Smith December 24, 2013

Still early days in mine, he’s 20, not growing massively but if he maintains the same level of growth then could be a gem.

  • comment avatar Danny December 21, 2013

will he be useful as a box to box midfielder

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 21, 2013

He could be yes, but I’d prefer using him as more of a playmaker.

      • comment avatar Danny December 21, 2013

        cheers for the reply

  • comment avatar As required January 4, 2014

Derby won’t accept an immediate offer for less than 19 (with loan option until end of the season).

How would you sign him for 7?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith January 4, 2014

Just did it with Wigan and that is what we tested it to be when this profile was originally done, the usual negotiating etc and it was from the very start. I think he does have flexible PA which may effect the figure, but I wouldn’t expect by that much.

  • comment avatar As required January 4, 2014

Thanks for the quick reply – I don’t know why but in Classic mode I signed Hughes at the start for 8.5m but on normal mode I can’t even get to the player’s terms unless I fork out 19m.

  • comment avatar Colin January 15, 2014

Just got offered 50 million for him in Jan2020… Don’t know what to do.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith January 15, 2014

I’d take it, there must be better regens around by then for less money…great offer.

  • comment avatar Colin January 15, 2014

It does seem too good to turn down. Unfortunately, It’s Chelsea, the back to back to back league champions who want him… And I’m not really convinced by any of the regens iv’e found are ready for first team football yet… time for some more scouting… they must be out there

  • comment avatar James January 24, 2014

I ended up getting Hughes with Wolves for 1.6mil in 2016. After 2 decent seasons in the premiership I reluctantly sold him for 31 million to Arsenal. I thought the offer was just too high to turn down. Do you think I could have got more out of him?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith January 24, 2014

It depends on how he was developing really, the longer you wait the more you get but sometimes it is best to just cash in, I did the same with Wigan.

  • comment avatar Frazer January 26, 2014

Bought Hughes for 8.5 mil during January 2015,after tutoring from lampard, ramires and mata he really developed has now formed the spine of my Chelsea team with chalobah playing as an anchor in the defensive midfield role, ward prowse playing an attack focused central midfield role and Hughes rotating with Oscar to play as either shadow striker, advanced playmaker or engache and can play central or defensive mid

    • comment avatar Darren Smith January 27, 2014

Yes it seems tutoring can really help players like him exel to the next level.

  • comment avatar Stu March 19, 2014

Great player, another top star for Newcastle. I was lucky enough to grab him for around £7m from Celtic. I use him in the AMC role, either as a TQ or SS, both of which he performs superbly. 2020 screen – http://i.imgur.com/YX0AdAS.png

    • comment avatar Darren Smith March 19, 2014

I had him for my Wigan side, unfortunately couldn’t accommodate his favourite position and role at the time so had to sell up to Chelsea but got more than £30 million. Looks good in your save.

  • comment avatar elgepi March 20, 2014

Played him as a starting CM (Attack) for 3 seasons from the get-go of an online league. Fastest attribute rise i’ve ever seen. Took about a season to start performing consistently (and brilliantly), but he is quite young.
