This FM 2012 player profile of Hulk is not that of a green action figure, but to be honest his attributes would seem to represent such a monster. This guy is an absolute beast, he has excellent pace, the strength of an ox and technical ability to make any defence wet their pants. Probably best used from the right wing, Hulk can cause utter mayhem and is truly unique in what he offers, the Brazilian can also finish well making him ideal upfront. That is why I give this guy 9.5/10, the extra little bit comes from the £29 million asking price which I feel is reasonable.

Best buy rating: 9.5/10

  • comment avatar N.Loureiro December 25, 2011

    Hey, Darren

Glad to see you looked him up? He’s quite unique, no?

Though you might want to know that in one of my saves Man Utd got him for 20 million euros. instead of the aforementioned 29 million. Makes him even more of a bargain, right?

Since we’re talking forwards, I think I stumbled across a gem of a player for those who like to start with “mid-tablers” like me. His name is Cristian Nazarit, my scouts at Koln rated him better than Soukouna, for example. Also, Nelson Oliveira, Rodrigo Moreno, Diego Rubio, Tiago Ilori and Alex Smithies could fall into that cathegory. All fairly cheap and ready to eat alive any team beneath you and give any above you a possible run for their money. Maybe you could check them out.

Oh and by February 2012 Nazarit becomes available on a free since Chicago Fire fail to offer him a decent contract (MLS rules and stuff, I guess) and he only asks for 5,000 euros for salary. It has to be said that I found my Podolski foil.

That said, I hope you enjoyed your christmas.

    :)

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 25, 2011

Certainly is unique. Nice to know he went for less but when I made my offers at the very start of the game that price range wasn’t accessible what so ever. I looked for Nazarit but no look in finding him and as for the others, I ruled them out for one reason or another before but am keeping tabs on them.

      Merry Christmas mate.

  • comment avatar Jimmy December 26, 2011

His future attributes look amazing. However, I’ve been playing him as an Inside forward on the right and he’s not been as effective as I would want him to be. I even set him as the playmaker just so that he could get more of the ball. Any help?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 26, 2011

I would just recommend trying him out in different roles and also note that the tactic can sometimes be the problem as opposed to individual player roles. For instance if he’s not getting the right supply nor has the right players in the right positions around him he may struggle…it’s all about experimenting.

  • comment avatar N. Loureiro December 28, 2011

Looking at his playing history, I dare say that he is not at his best. He played – at least – half the matches in the portuguese First League in each of the 6 seasons in your save. I don’t know if it’s due to injury or because of squad rotation policy, regardless – and this from a guy who has seen him live and many, many times in the local broadcasts – he has it in him be amongst the world’s best. Not saying he’ll be like CR7 or Messi but he can be reach Robben’s level – obviously, I am referring to a fully fit Robben in which case the dutch is probably the only one who can be just as decisive as both Ronaldo and Messi.

I know that some – if not many – don’t agree with my view of Robben but his first season with Bayern backs my claim.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 28, 2011

He is certainly a top player and I agree with you on the career history shown. When I saw it I thought there must have been a glitch or something but at least the attributes boast well.

  • comment avatar Mike December 31, 2011

Hulk just handed in a transfer request during February of my first season, deal for 20.2 million? I’m playing as Arsenal and have Gervinho, Willian and Walcott on the flanks with Miyaichi, Rochina and Chamberlain on the rise. Thanks in advance Darren.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 31, 2011

I’d say that is a very good buy to be honest.

      • comment avatar Mike December 31, 2011

Thanks for the quick input Darren :)

  • comment avatar Fábio Morgado January 9, 2012

There is only one way to stop Hulk once he has the ball in his feet: by foul or when he decides to shoot it.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith January 9, 2012

Agreed, or you could legalize the use of shot guns in the game.

  • comment avatar Chonger January 26, 2012

For all of you wondering his most consistent and best position…Poacher. 56 goals in a season for me. He scores from the wing aswell but he is simply unfair if u put him as poacher.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith January 26, 2012

Thanks, obviously sounds like a beast upfront then.

  • comment avatar Karl January 31, 2012

Hulk is DEFINITELY a monster in Football Manager 2012, one of the best buys in the entire game. Hulk AND Rooney up front for my Man U team…man that’s just unfair.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith January 31, 2012

Now that would be a beastly combination.

  • comment avatar andy February 1, 2012

do you think hes better then neymar

    • comment avatar Darren Smith February 1, 2012

I think that comes down to personal choice, but for me personally I’d say yes….however that is only because I prefer a powerful player to a skillful one.

    • comment avatar Vitor Ferreira February 18, 2012

in game maybe in real life hell no xD i dont even know why they made him sooooooo over skilled in the game when in real life a central back can keep him on a box…

  • comment avatar Alberto February 14, 2012

My favourite player irl, also loved him in fm 2011, but in 2012 he is just pure class.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith February 14, 2012

      I agree, Hulk is incredible.

  • comment avatar Alexis February 20, 2012

I’m Tottenham. Play with Hazard on the right, VDV, Modric,Sandro CM, and Bale on the left. Any idea on how I should be playing to get the best out of Hulk?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith February 20, 2012

I couldn’t say to be honest, its all down to your tactic, entire team and your style of management….if you get the tactic right and Hulk is your forward he will perform as a result of that. I think he could be used in many roles but poacher would probably provide the most goals.

  • comment avatar Arsenal Boss February 27, 2012

Hulk is SICK!He is on my right wing.I shudder to think of what he will do upfront. He is only on the right wing because Cavani and Damiaoo are upfront for me.But I have to say,If I had to pick among those three Hulk would be my man!period!

  • comment avatar mik March 3, 2012

my city team, with hulk on the right is wonderful. first ten games he was reasonable, with 6.9 all the time. since he scored his first goal never stopped. my midfield is bale pastore and hulk, with sigurosson gotze and hazard on the bench.

  • comment avatar Clark Kent March 24, 2012

Who should i pick for my first choice striker, hulk or aguero?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith March 25, 2012

I personally think Aguero, but could see either performer better in certain tactics….might be worth rotating them to see who performs best and going from there.

  • comment avatar Conor March 28, 2012

    Seems like he’s got worse.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith March 28, 2012

We must be looking at different profiles here, there’s no way you can say he’s not improved. Yes he has changed as a player slightly, ie much better mentally and technically but his physical stats will drop when around 30, that is just normal…then having said that only his acceleration has dropped, almost every other attribute has gone up. :)

      • comment avatar Conor March 28, 2012

        I mean in the update.

        • comment avatar Darren Smith March 28, 2012

I see, but to be honest I’ve just double checked the profile from before the update and his attributes are identical to in 12.2 unless I’ve made a mistake?

          • comment avatar Conor March 28, 2012

Really? Fair enough then, I was sure he had more than two technical attributes above 15 though.

          • comment avatar Darren Smith March 28, 2012

Unless I have two screenshots that are labelled from different patches but are actually the same…though I can’t see that been the case as I just updated it within the last week.

  • comment avatar Alex April 13, 2012

    just a suggestion to all

MAKE HULK A COMPLETE FORWARD AND HE WILL BEEEEAST

    that is all

    55 apps my 1st season 58 goals…… need i say more?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith April 13, 2012

He is a quality player if used right and the word beast sums him up well.

  • comment avatar Steven Clark May 16, 2012

Alright Mate, Im just about the start my third season with Liverpool, I won the league in my second season and lost in the quarter finals of the champions league to Real Madrid. Hulk has no interest what so ever in joining me. any suggestions or reasons why you think he dosnt want to move?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith May 16, 2012

I couldn’t say, it could be any number of reasons. Just keep trying every 3-4 months.

  • comment avatar des May 19, 2012

Hulk has never had any interest in joining my Man Utd team. I think he just doesn’t want to go to the premier league. very sad because I would have preferred him over gotze as I feel he’s more suited because of his monstrous physique.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith May 19, 2012

I see the logic there but between Gotze and Hulk I think it comes down to your tactics and preference in style of play.

  • comment avatar andrew May 26, 2012

Just wanted to know, around how much would he ask for in wages even man utd had to approach him?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith May 26, 2012

The scouting report above says around 80-105K

  • comment avatar cole May 29, 2012

Scored 59 goals for me at Arsenal my first season! Absolute monster! Playing him as an AF up top with van Persie and Gervinho on the wings as inside forwards. Definitely worth the 30 million i payed for him

  • comment avatar gshinhar May 29, 2012

    i play him as a poacher with wayne rooney…… a perfect purchase…..

  • comment avatar Joeyboy June 7, 2012

Just wanted to say Darren, this is a really great site you’ve made here, it helps me loads on FM12, I don’t know what I’d do without it. Much credit goes to you for the time and effort that goes into this.

Anyways, I play James Rodriguez, Willian, Hulk, and Seydou Doumbia as AML, AMC, AMR, ST respectively. However, none of them seem to be very effective at all, so I wonder if you could possibly suggest what roles and duties I should assign to them to get the maximum out of their individually insane abilities??

    • comment avatar Darren Smith June 7, 2012

Thanks mate, I’m glad these lists have helped. As for the query on those players I’d suggest they need more time to settle but have always struggled with an AMC and find that position restricts other players too. Drop the AMC back to CM advanced playmaker, use James and Hulk as inside forwards from the wings and Doumbia as poacher.

  • comment avatar Alex June 9, 2012

Managed Porto for 5 years…. lost ONLY 2 games in those 5 years… and they both came in my 5th years lol… no draws… no save-game tactics, i swear on my life… Made Hulk worth £38m and after my 3rd year finally got him world player of the year. his 1st season he played every single game foe me, starting, and had 55 apps 58 goals…

as a Complete Forward…. you can go wrong with Hulk…. probably one of the best players in the game by far

    • comment avatar Alex June 9, 2012

      Cant go wrong*

    • comment avatar Darren Smith June 9, 2012

Well that is a ridiculous record.

  • comment avatar martin84 June 14, 2012

i sign hulk for 22 million in ( patch 12.2) i used him as posher he scored 56 goals in 56 games he become number two best player in the world for two times (number one in the two times is messi ) i sold him for Chelsea by 46.5 million.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith June 14, 2012

He is well worth the money if suiting to your playing style.

  • comment avatar tegar June 23, 2012

I have Damiao in my squad. Which one should I use for poacher? Hulk or Damiao? I’m managing Porto by the way.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith June 23, 2012

It depends on what roles you want to use and your tactics…I always say pick the players to suit a tactic and not vice versa…they’d both play just as well in that role.

  • comment avatar Wim July 9, 2012

Hulk and Aguero are my strikers and iniesta behind them … With City … just amazing.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 9, 2012

Now that is a scary attacking force.

  • comment avatar FredRead12 July 30, 2012

why is he only playing 15 games a year

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 30, 2012

      I don’t know, I wasn’t managing him.

  • comment avatar Andre August 19, 2012

So i’m with juventus at the second season but i already got Valencia (utd) and Krasic at right winger and Damiao alone as striker (4231) and i want hulk to play as Left Winger but don’t know if he will play beastly there or is better to take a cheaper LW like Nicolas Gaitan

    • comment avatar Darren Smith August 19, 2012

Only you can answer that as I don’t know your save, it depends on what you want and what you want to spend…all I can say is that Hulk is more explosive whereas Gaitan is cheaper and more technically based.

  • comment avatar FredRead12 August 21, 2012

i need a target man i have already tried leandro damiao but international are demanding £93m so his is off my shortlist for the moment

  • comment avatar FredRead12 August 22, 2012

i’m in the january transfer window (2016) with Brighton and I just signed Hulk and he has scored 2 in 3 games

  • comment avatar neramagico November 22, 2012

absolutely monster. i played him on right winger and mostly he bring the ball from the halfline and then cut inside to pop a beutiful goal. always picked for the man of the match n goal of the week. and instant imapact.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith November 22, 2012

I agree, he is very dangerous and an instant impact.

  • comment avatar jackskehan December 9, 2012

how to play hulk i.e poacher advanced forward?? and the same for podolski??

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 10, 2012

Seen as I have never really managed either properly I couldn’t recommend, it would vary on your tactic but I’d suggest checking the coach report and use their advice.

  • comment avatar Ted December 15, 2012

Darren, I’m hoping you still check these FM12 pages because I was wondering what training schedule was used for this version of Hulk? Besides his pace and his acceleration which are each -1 compared to the Hulk I have in my game, pretty much every important offensive attribute of his is +2 above mine. And I’ve been training him individual focus on passing (medium focus) for a season and a half, too, since I got him, and even then this profile has equal passing to my Hulk and +1 better creativity.

What training schedule was used for this Hulk? I want mine to look like that (minus the decline in pace and acceleration). And really, since I bought him, he’s improved a lot, one of the best improvements of any of my players using the “MU – ST (fast)” schedule (out of the group I saw you recommended on another page or from a “how to succeed with Malaga” blog or something.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 15, 2012

While I do check these pages still I can’t really help I’m afraid. This screenshot was taken using CPU management so his development wasn’t handled by myself…I’d just recommend going the way you are and I reckon he’ll improve to the same if not better than the screenshots above.

  • comment avatar Ted December 16, 2012

Thanks for the response Darren, but are you sure? I may have neglected to make clear, but I didnt sign Hulk until my 2nd season, now its the third, and he’s already 27 years old in my game.

I guess the question to ask now, and maybe you can help me, is what training schedule does the CPU use for strikers? I doubt the CPU downloads custom training schedules from the internet… I mean do they use just the same normal ones as come with the game for you? In other words, Hulk would have been on either General or Forwards? And does the CPU even use specific attribute training?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 16, 2012

No one can tell you what training the CPU uses, its the CPU so no one knows.

  • comment avatar Ted December 16, 2012

I figured people would know, the developers would be able to tell people that asked. I always assumed, when you start a game everyone is on general or one of the position-specific training schedules, meaning that if you’re not managing a team, that’s what the CPU uses. But are you saying the CPU actually has training schedules that aren’t included for the player when they start the game?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 17, 2012

Like I’ve already said I don’t know how the CPU handles training…SI have never had a reason to disclose that information and I have never asked.
