Gylfi Sigurdsson’s scouting report from Cagigao of Arsenal

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s profile aged 29 in the year 2019

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s career history until 2019

This FM 2012 player profile of Gylfi Sigurdsson illustrates an attacking prowess. The 21 year old is a magician on the ball and his skills only get better. If you’re looking for a set piece master, a player that can provide tonnes of goals from free-kicks and 15 plus assists from corners per season then look no further. The playmaker develops well and makes it at the highest level. I think the £9 million asking price is reasonable and Sigurdsson is available for a cut down price later in the game.

Yeah I can see him developing into a superstar with the right management, what team are those career history screenshots with?

  • comment avatar Anto November 13, 2011

    Ajax Amsterdam.
And Darren, thanks for your wonderful work.

where to play this guy??I’m using 442,so should I put him as an CM(ap),winger or striker?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith November 13, 2011

I’d use him as CM in an advanced playmaker role and attack duty. Also make sure he is taking every set piece and he should get a lot of goals and assists.

      • comment avatar mario November 13, 2011

thanks,he has great attributes for midfield, but his finishing and composure are also remarkable…hopefully,he’ll join my Wolves side soon :D

        • comment avatar Darren Smith November 14, 2011

Well Birmingham signed him in my Malaga save and he’s been immense!!!!

          • comment avatar mario November 14, 2011

but the thing that’s bugging me is that my ass manager gives him only 1 star rating as CM,hopefully, when I retrain him to this position he will get at least 4…oh yeah, his dribbling is awful,so what should I do?individualy train his dribbling or just limit his runs with ball (but that negates/limits his advanced playmaker role).also, with 6´1˝ height you would expect that he can jump but this guy obviously can’t…very confusing player for me

          • comment avatar Darren Smith November 14, 2011

He will have one star for that position because he isn’t trained there yet but it doesn’t mean he can’t do well there…relying on what your assistant and scouts say can be a real pitfall as their information is misleading. I would train him as a CM and also individually on dribbling. That or you could just play him as a deep lying playmaker though he wouldn’t be as effective I don’t think. A players jumping ability isn’t just off their height, its a combination though I get what you’re saying as it seems very low.

          • comment avatar mario November 23, 2011

this guy is a must buy…on 1st season with Wolves he scored 27 goals and 15 assists in 42 apps as CM…30 yard freekicks are like penalty for him :D

          • comment avatar Darren Smith November 23, 2011

            He is outstanding.

    • comment avatar Tim August 16, 2012

If you train him as an AMR he is unbelievable! His crossing is so dangerous and he scores more screamers than any other player I have ever had in any FM!

      • comment avatar Darren Smith August 16, 2012

I can imagine Gylfi been deadly on the ball in that area but a lot of gamers require pace in that area.

  • comment avatar Almas November 30, 2011

Hey, I have used him as a deep lying forward, for my arsenal squad, this guy is tremendous, when he got to the age of 23 he scored 43 goals in 46 apps, including leagues, cups and european championships taking golden ball from messi and ronaldo.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith November 30, 2011

He is incredible and those free-kicks are just outstanding.

  • comment avatar Nick January 17, 2012

With my Spurs, in 2015, only EPL stats:
    Goals: 30
    Assists: 28
    MotM: 17
    – NO JOKE! –

AMC with supporting role and (ofcourse) he takes every set piece.

He is by far the best player in my squad, and I have G.Rossi, C.Fierro, L. Moura, L.Modric, C.Tevez and some spectaculair regens.

    A must buy!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith January 17, 2012

Wow that is a great record, his set pieces make those stats possible for sure though.

    • comment avatar grub May 29, 2012

      what formation do you use?

  • comment avatar Arsenal Boss February 10, 2012

Gylfi is my darling boy!I never think twice about buying him in any of my games and I don’t care who I sell as long as I am getting Gylfi.Case Closed! He is a menace to the opponent.I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE him!I say get him at all cost and you will NEVER regret your decision. That said, I respectfully disagree with your rating of 8.I would give him 1000/10. Ignore me! I am always excited about Gylfi.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith February 10, 2012

Didn’t realize I’d rated him at 8, I’ll adjust that now.

      • comment avatar Arsenal Boss February 11, 2012

LOL..Thanks Darren.I can’t believe you even bothered.Doing a good job on here by the way!

        • comment avatar Darren Smith February 11, 2012

I do so many profiles I sometimes get the ratings wrong to be honest and if one is brought to my attention I want the site to be accurate so have no problem with changing stuff. Thanks for the compliment.

  • comment avatar Harry Ross March 17, 2012

if playing a 4321 formation with wingers, would playing sigurdson and hamsik in the middle be too attacking? i’d play hamsik as a deep lying mid and sigurdson as advanced play maker? or i’m thinking about replacing pastore with sigurdson, tell me what you think, thanks

    • comment avatar Darren Smith March 17, 2012

I don’t think that would be too attacking though you will have to accpet below par performances from one of them. I often find gamers expecting to use four or five top attacking stars and see them all perform miracles but in reality only two players can be stars in an individual game.

  • comment avatar Harry Ross March 17, 2012

yeah i understand, willian hazard and cavani are seen as my stars, just need the others too be solid, thanks for your help mate

    • comment avatar Darren Smith March 17, 2012

No problem Harry, it took me a while to accept that a few players could be key in one match but when you get the hang of that you’ll start to build your side around it and that is when you’ll become consistent.

  • comment avatar Karl March 23, 2012

This guy is a total beast and absolute bargain for ANY EPL side. Insane free kick ability that troubles the opposition keeper every game, same with the long shots. He scored 2 goals on debut for my Man U save, both from free kicks. AND he counts as a home grown player in England. What more do you need? He’s an insta-start for me. This guy has been far more effective in my free kicks than Rooney or Hulk, who I have as well. This guy and Hulk are really instant buys if you have the money.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith March 23, 2012

I agree he is very good. But while Areola looks promising Iam yet to see him become world class in game.

      • comment avatar LFC Don April 3, 2012

do you think hes worth buying ??? i was going to get ganso but i keep hearing how he gets injured all the time , hamsik ive had my doubts about him as i herd due to his workrate he can be quiet in games which is making me think will his workrate effect the way he plays ( what i mean is consistency ? ) or should i just buy him on my save hes worth 6m atm and same goes to hulk ????

        • comment avatar Darren Smith April 4, 2012

Sigurdsson is definitely worth buying and as for Hamsik, he is one of the best players on the game so I’d ignore the rumors out there, they probably come from poor management.

        • comment avatar Heresy April 4, 2012

It’s either poor management, as Darren suggested, or maybe Hamsik is suffering from too many world class players around him. That’s the fate he’s suffered in my Malaga team in season 3.

I was delighted to get him for 20M after Napoli had a rubbish season, used Darren’s 4-5-1 flat mid tactic as an advanced playmaker and… not many assists, only 6 goals in all competitions. All my attacks came from the wings through as my wingers were in top form and so Hamsik didn’t really have too much to do. An occasional counter goal was all he did. His passing was something in order of 82% however and he was usually the one starting the counter. He didn’t get any credit for it but it doesn’t mean he wasn’t playing well.

  • comment avatar Karl March 23, 2012

Anyway on another note, what do you think of Alphonse Areola, goalkeeper from PSG? According to my scout (20 in potential and ability judging) he’s near De Gea level!

    • comment avatar Heresy April 4, 2012

Areola’s Current Ability is very low, so you need to give him 2-3 seasons before he gets good enough for a starting lineup. However, after that’s he’s very consistent, his handling and areal ability make up for a fairly low rushing out attribute. A very physical player as well. 20 in strength afetr 2 seasons! Mental stats develop steadily if you give him a lot of game time. Overall, If you have a fairly old solid keeper and want to personally train his replacement, Areola is perfect for you and a bargain for what you can get in the future.

While the number of mistakes made while rushing out will be fairly low (although they will happen) thanks to good agility, acceleration and decisions, his throwing and kicking will always be fairly poor unless you prefer to coack him on those rather than on Areola’s main strengths such as handling and positioning.

gylfi, world player of the year in my liverpool save. He´s amazing

    • comment avatar Darren Smith June 5, 2012

I agree and my screenhsots above don’t even do him full justice.

  • comment avatar Adam June 6, 2012

Best played up front as a deep lying forward in a strike partnership in my opinion

  • comment avatar foo June 19, 2012

Dominated for Anji in my Southampton save and eventually became worth 44mil so couldn’t afford that :(.

    His stats are brilliant though!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith June 19, 2012

I agree, Gylfi is an absolute beast and a snap at the start of the game.

  • comment avatar Gavin June 30, 2012

From the screenshot and the game his attributes is just decent, although his set piece is very high.. Does he play better than his attributes look? I’m thinking of signing him because lots of ppl say he’s great but his dribbling/speed/flair/anticipation/off the ball doesn’t look that good..

    • comment avatar Darren Smith June 30, 2012

Have to disagree completely, I think his attributes in the game are very good and the future profile also, he can develop way beyond this anyway. Definitely worth a buy.

  • comment avatar Gavin July 1, 2012

But what’s so great other than his set piece attributes?? Also his value is only 4,7m Hmm :/
But yeah I’ll try to sign him and see how he plays

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 1, 2012

There’s a hell of a lot more to a player in FM than attributes and value…the gamers who can recognize that are the ones that tend to do really, really well. Its his general attributes, the fact he’s gone no where near his potential in the screenshot shown and the mix of his attributes also, they compliment each other and he is one of the best players technically whether you see that or not, it is a FACT…as I said, look beyond the attributes as there’s more to a player than, ow his passing isn’t high or, well the dribbling is low. You need to see what a player does in the match engine as that will show their true ability.

  • comment avatar silva July 21, 2012

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Joe McKee are my fav players I have a great shots for both of them

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 21, 2012

If Sigurdsson is a lot better ion your save I’d like a screenshot mate.

  • comment avatar Andre July 25, 2012

who do you think is best suited for a cm advanced playmaker role? kovacic or sigurdsson?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 25, 2012

Both the same for me to be honest, I don’t see one as been more suited than the other. Only difference is you may get more from Kovacic in normal play whereas you’ll get a lot more from Sigurdsson from dead ball situations.

      • comment avatar Andre July 25, 2012

thanks for the quick reply, ill probably buy sigurdsson as i dont seem to get many dead ball goals

  • comment avatar 022 July 30, 2012

If you can’t afford him, he’s version for smaller clubs is Bernardo(Cruzeiro/Vasco da gamma).

I’m looking for young cm or amc with big potential and set pieces, my options are Gylfi and Nicolas Lodeiro, Lodeiro potential is 160 while Gylfi’s 179 but Gylfi has only 10 ambition hidden attribute do you think he can reach at least 165 potential with that?

Also do you think Mateo Kovacic or Felipe Gutierrez can be trained to be good set piece takers or it will be waste of their abilities?:>

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 30, 2012

A players PA is what outlines his general ability but I’d never ever let it effect my decisions, mainly because I think its cheating a little to find out what their potential ability is, this games all about judging a players development from the tools available as managers do in real life so I don’t bother with their PA. All I’d say is Sigurdsson is the better option.

I’d say you’re wasting your time trying to make Kovacic and Felipe good set piece options.

  • comment avatar James August 1, 2012

Darren, would Gylfi be capable of playing in a Deep Lying Playmaker role ?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith August 2, 2012

      I don’t think so no, but I haven’t tried.

  • comment avatar James August 6, 2012

. Would he be Good in a Deep Lying Forward role, Darren ?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith August 7, 2012

      I just answered that question.

  • comment avatar J.D December 4, 2012

Wow he turns out to be a much better player than your stat above :D i had him for 3 seasons in my liverpool save n
1st season; he scored 13 goals and made 16 assits
2nd season: he scored 20 goals and made 18 assits
Half of the 3rd season: he scores 5 goals and made 13 assits
    World class!!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 4, 2012

He certainly should develop and play beyond the stats above, that is with CPU management which is commonly known as been well below that of a human. Well demonstrated by the record you listed.
