This FM 2012 player profile of Erick Torres shows the young Mexican can make it in Europe. Torres is very versatile, he can play just behind the striker or upfront and develops into a quick goal machine. His pace, dribbling and general mental attributes make this kid a real deadly assassin. The asking price of just £3.7 million makes this wonderkid a must buy and the fact he can make an instant impact from the bench aids his growth.

Second season with Dortmund and 4(3) matches and 9 goals. Enought said!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith November 30, 2011

I’ve seen him play brilliant for Sporting CP before signing for Man City.

WHo is better? Carlos Fierro or Erik Torres?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith December 6, 2011

I personally love Fierro but think they are both very, very similar. I guess Torres starts the better so would be easier to develop.

    • comment avatar totonero80 January 26, 2012

I prefer Torres :), he’s like Kaka in my game :)

      • comment avatar totonero80 January 26, 2012

… and my Torres is far better than Darren’s Torres :D, especially about physical atts

        • comment avatar Darren Smith January 26, 2012

He should be, the one in the screenshot above is from the CPU manager as opposed to a real gamer so most buying this kid should see far better results.

  • comment avatar Matt Skeer December 18, 2011

Do you think you could recommend a training schedule that I can download and import Darren because I can’t seem to improve these wonder kids I’m investing in.

  • comment avatar Peter G January 4, 2012

On my Wigan league 1st season he scored 9 in 28 games. But in my second season he has already scored 9 in 12 games. He stats are starting in increase regulary now. His pace on mine is 17

    • comment avatar Darren Smith January 4, 2012

Yeah most strikers tend to struggle when they are 18 or under and then start to really hit their form pushing on 20. That’s what I have found anyway and I signed Torres with Newcastle so we’ll see how he develops there too. :)

      • comment avatar Jonathan April 3, 2012

I signed him for Newcastle, and in the second season he became lethal in front of goal, exactly like you said

  • comment avatar fm noob January 10, 2012

shuld plae him as tes or inside foward?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith January 10, 2012

I prefer using him as a striker and never actually use AMC position so I don’t know what is best for that.

  • comment avatar Josh Holland January 18, 2012

I am thinking of starting a new career what team should i use?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith January 18, 2012

Depends on what you want really, money, challenge etc etc. Though I always pick a club that means something to me if I can.

  • comment avatar gio February 8, 2012

Im on my 2nd season in Juventus, I play torres as a central attacking midfielder of a 4-2-3-1 formation. I usually use him as an impact substitute, subbing a slower yet technically better AMC for him. I was down 2-1 on aggregate in the champions league semi final against Barcelona, til he scored a solo effort at camp nou making juventus win on aggregate.

heres the prooof!! play it on hd.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith February 8, 2012

He can certainly be a match winner.

  • comment avatar Jorge Fernandes February 14, 2012

I’m using him as a striker, now, he’s 22 years old, 18 finishing, 17 acceleration, 18 pace, 16 agi, 18 creativity, 16 off the ball. the others stats still dont reach 16, but some of them will, I believe that I just need to improve his technique now, to make him an unstoppable goal machine

    • comment avatar Darren Smith February 14, 2012

He does seem like a true talent and should develop beyond the attributes you see in the screenshot.

  • comment avatar Doria February 20, 2012

Hello Darren! Major fan of this site, great work. Depending on the club I managed, i usually bought the same set of players and it got boring. The players on this site made it interesting again, but i do have some questions regarding player development, if you don’t mind.

Developing players is my favorite part of FM, but I am not very good at it apparently. I, like you, use Maestro Ugo`s training. Torres plays every game, but his progress is not very impressive. I play with Ajax, every category except attacking and shooting, i have more than 4 star training and excellent facilities. Any hints or clues as to what I am doing wrong?

And what is important regarding individual training and preseason training? what is your process regarding these areas?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith February 20, 2012

Well I just do what you are doing and train the players individually in the areas I feel are effecting their match performances. If you have just done one to two years then he needs more time, otherwise maybe its down to the level of football in Holland compared to the major countries, but I’m not sure…I sometimes find that certain players just won’t develop fast for me and there’s no explaining it.

  • comment avatar Doria February 20, 2012

Cool, I will try to be patient and think of it as a learning experience. Keep up the good work, cheers!

  • comment avatar Miguel Carvalho March 30, 2012

    hey guys!
    what about jelle vossen?
i like the kind of striker that he is, but i don´t know how it will work in my Ajax save.
    thankx

    • comment avatar Darren Smith March 30, 2012

Yeah he will get a profile, not my type of forward but incredible mental attributes.

  • comment avatar Fajar Syahruramdhan April 20, 2012

i can never understand with english’s work permit rule. it’s frustrating and annoying. i find it difficult to sign quality players which are non EU.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith April 20, 2012

It can be complicated but it just is what it is, you can’t find a way around it.

  • comment avatar chay April 26, 2012

I’ve just arranged to sign Torres for 2nd season with Napoli, Where would be best to play him poacher, Deep lying forward (A) or adv playmaker (A) in AMC?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith April 27, 2012

Excellent signing there, I personally don’t use the AMC position as it seems to lead to inconsistent form but Torres is certainly built for that role…personally I use him as poacher where he scored 20+ goals in his first season for my Newcastle side.

  • comment avatar boring1 May 21, 2012

    Hi Darren,

I’ve just brought Carlos Fierro and Erick Torres in my second season on my southampton save. I play a boring 4-4-2 with a trequartista and Poacher. I’m stubborn with the formation and would not change it unless absolutly necessary! I want to start both these wonderkids but am not sure who would work best as a Poacher and who a treqartista?

I get the feeling you’re going to tell me they both suit a poachers role…in that case who would make the best treqartista?

    Thanks!

    • comment avatar Darren Smith May 21, 2012

Both players are incredibly similar to be honest but I guess Torres may suit the Treqartista role best…to be honest there’s nothing in it, all you can do is try both players and see who comes out best.

  • comment avatar TommyTomster123 May 21, 2012

Yeah erick torres is amazing, however the future profile you show doesnt really do its justice, look at this pic that i found and he is only 23 years old on this! http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/attachments/football-manager-2012-players/219396d1327713397-two-best-signings-fm12-carlos-fierro-erick-torres-erick-torres-overview_-attributes-.png

    • comment avatar Darren Smith May 21, 2012

Yeah it won’t do him justice as the CPU was manager, I’d expect any human manager to do much better like the screenshot you shared.

  • comment avatar Jack May 24, 2012

How long should it take to retrain him as a striker? I generally don’t use an AMC.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith May 24, 2012

Not very long, probably half a season and to be honest he could play striker just fine from the off anyway.

  • comment avatar Oisin June 3, 2012

A great player, no doubt. Just wondering if you could recommend any stats he might need individual training with? I’m planning on playing him as sole poacher. Thanks a lot, and great site.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith June 3, 2012

You should work on his first touch and most importantly composure, once the composure is up a few it may be worth switching between composure and finishing also.

  • comment avatar Mark June 7, 2012

I signed Torres, niang, sanogo, and fierro but they all seem to poachers, but I can’t play them all as poachers, how should I play them so they get enough game time to develop properly. Also in other post when you mentioned that they need at least 15 appearances does that have to the full 90 minutes or can it be just a half an hour cameo from the bench? Thanks

    • comment avatar TheZiggy June 7, 2012

Buying several strikers who are of the same type can cause problems in the squad. I’ve had that problem before. One of the things to do though, is check on the “Player Instructions” screen and go through all the different roles and duties, to see if some be played differently. I’ve found a few in the past who can play well as an Advanced Forward.

Even bringing a player on in injury time, counts as an appearance. I’m sure that’s why it’s done in real life, besides trying to waste time.

For the really young players, a half hour off the bench seems to be a good amount of time for them. I will on occasion give them a full run out if I’m playing a much weaker team.

      • comment avatar Mark June 8, 2012

        Great thanks very much

  • comment avatar Oisin June 7, 2012

    Thanks alot,great advice.

  • comment avatar Harper O'Keeffe July 5, 2012

Hi if I was to tutor Erick Torres who would you choose to tutor him with. I am Man City

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 5, 2012

I reckon Aguero, but if he’s too young then maybe Tevez.

      • comment avatar Harper O'Keeffe September 15, 2012

Sergio Aguero did not work at all. Erick Torres said he didn’t get along with Sergio and Tevez, he is going to be Tevez and didn’t want to. Thanks for your input and who would suit him well enough th tutor him. At Man city or not. Love your work keep it up, Thanks.

  • comment avatar Jones July 26, 2012

Who would you choose between Torres and Belhanda for a replacement for Sigurdsson for the second season in my Swansea save I first bought off Kovacic but he didn´t want to sign. If you got any other suggestions it would be helpful too.

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 26, 2012

I’d suggest Torres, not much point in suggesting more as I don’t know whos available and interested.

      • comment avatar Jones July 26, 2012

Thanks I go with Torres if I get him a work permit.
Great list it has helped me a lot.

  • comment avatar Darren July 31, 2012

hes in my starting lineup in my first season with sunderland he plays really well and has got a ton of assists but he has only scored about 4 goals all season is it because he is too young to start every game?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith July 31, 2012

No, it will be the position/role you are playing him in I think…he got 20+ goals for my Newcastle side first season.

      • comment avatar Darren July 31, 2012

i play a 4-4-2 formation with torres alongside bendtner and i use him as a trequartista

        • comment avatar Darren Smith July 31, 2012

That is your problem, he won’t score in that role, needs to be poacher.

          • comment avatar Darren July 31, 2012

            ok thanks :)

  • comment avatar James August 6, 2012

  • comment avatar Lukas August 24, 2012

Arsenal want to buy this guy 35m..Sell him??

    • comment avatar Darren Smith August 24, 2012

It depends, if there is someone available that can reach or exceed his ability for half the price then yes sell him.

      • comment avatar Lukas August 24, 2012

I’ve already have sanogo and buy fierro…so i sell torres because fierro won’t get first team app if torres stay.thanx for the advice..

        • comment avatar Darren Smith August 24, 2012

I’d certainly say selling is wise then.

  • comment avatar xerolite August 26, 2012

    this unstable player..

    • comment avatar Darren Smith August 26, 2012

I’m sorry you’ll have to expand, I prefer it if people wouldn’t bother commenting unless theres a point to it.

  • comment avatar Harper O'Keeffe September 25, 2012

What are the best PPMs for this player?

    • comment avatar Darren Smith September 25, 2012

I don’t pay much attention to them so I wouldn’t know I’m afraid.

      • comment avatar Harper O'Keeffe October 1, 2012

Does anyone else know some good PPMs for this gun of a player

  • comment avatar srbz October 18, 2012
